Jiu-Jitsu competition rules are weird

Grandmaster
Went to a jiu-jitsu competition this weekend. My second match, anyone watching the fight who didn't know jiu-jitsu rules would think I lost by a mile. I got put into at least 5 submission attempts that were each deep enough my teammates thought I was going to tap (including one ankle lock that my opponent thought he broke my leg). I was put into a pretty deep guillotine that I escaped by giving my opponent mount, and there were at least 3 triangles that were really heavily locked in.

I ended up winning the match 6-4. How did I get my 6 points? Each of them followed this pattern:
  • I sat down
  • My opponent sat down
  • I stood up
Bam, 2 points for a sweep every time.

The rules benefited me in this case. But man was that a weird fight to win.

Oh, and the funny thing about the triangles. This week, the move-of-the-week has been triangle escapes. I used that move every time to escape the triangle.

My Professor had a specific one he wanted to teach. The other coaches (brown belts and another purple belt) have all been grumbling this week about it. They didn't think it's a good escape, didn't think it was effective, didn't want to teach it, but begrudgingly did because "that's what professor wants".

I told my Professor that when the video is released for this competition, he needs to send it to the other coaches and say, "SEE?!"

Here's the fight in question. It didn't go exactly as I remembered. But still went pretty good. At one point I get thrown into the ref. At one point I do a cartwheel with my head. This was probably my most entertaining fight I've had yet.
