Starting over with belts, yes, but techniques?

I've read somewhere that he even taught techniques slightly different, while remaining the same technique, in different places, to help identify the place a certain practitioner comes from...

I'm pretty sure that was forms.

Techniques seem to be pretty universal, except when you've got an instructor who goes through the system and makes changes to it, as was the case with me. I'm re learning all the stuff back to the way it was in the technique manuals that Mr. Parker Jr. sells.
