one man's journey into old age, Karate and depression

Next is to acquire equipment to perform exercises. Growing up poor and being cheap I will rule out purchasing new equipment. We'll see how that goes.

Some of this may be convoluted. But, it will end with how this forum helped me change my view of life.

I will post various short posts about my experience. I hope someone may benefit from it (isn't that what they always say?). It may take awhile. Thanks in advance. OPR1945.
if it's any consolation, I'm a young Uechi practitioner and I'd drink up your thoughts on it. You will be immortal via your students, and their students, etc, you know that right?

As near as I can figure out this program consists mainly of 4 exercises.
Dead lift
Bench press
Squat
Military press.

So not all that much equipment is utilized.
Weight bench
Weights
Possibly squat rack.

Okay you just need bodyweight squats, pushups and rows.

Yes, the exercises train big muscle groups that are often used in everyday life for various tasks. They will give you all round strength.

If you can have someone to spot you (I think it’s wise to in general) then you won’t need a squat rack. Isn’t there a cheap gym near you that you could use? It doesn’t have to be fancy…a boxing gym perhaps?

Can you do pushups and squats still?
It's easier if one can integrate these into his daily training.

I walk 3 miles daily. When I walk on the Bob Jones Trail Avail Beach CA, there are 8 benches in the 3 miles round trip. When I reach to a bench, I will do 40 pushups and 25 squats. After each 40 pushups and 25 squats, I can sit on the bench rest for 5 minutes before I continue. IMO, the outdoor flesh air and nice scenery can make the workout much easier.

To late. I purchased one like this on facebook marketplace (a web site to sell used items) for $100 USD. It came with a 7' barbell that weighs 40#.

I also purchased a weight bench like this for $25 USD. And I purchased a set of weights 110# along with a 7' 25# bar bell and a set of dumb bells for around $80 total I also bought a set of safety bars for the weight bench.

Next is to make room for equipment in garage.

Yes
Planet fitness (Chain franchise)
Powerhouse gym (Chain franchise)
and at least 5 local locations

One of the chains offers a no contract $50/month membership. I am considering joining for a month or two to learn correct forms.

I had a very pleasant surprise this evening. At the start I had a weight bench, 2 - 7' barbells, 2 dumbbells a squat cage and about 120# in weights.

I was on facebook marketplace looking for used weights. I found an ad for 2 - 25# and 2 -50# weights plates for $100. I think it is a good price for here. most places used weights are aat least $1 per pound and more commonly $1.25 to $1.50 per pound.

When I got there he gave me all his stuff for the $100. starting with 250# of weights--16 plates half of which are chrome plated--, barbell bar, curl bar, pair of dumbbells, weight bench.
These are pictures of weights in car, garage floor, and weight bench.

I am pretty stroked. Now just need to find room for everything.

Have a good day.

Good stuff sensei!

Excellent hoard of training gear! You’ll be able to open your own gym and recoup your costs!

Drove an hour one way to purchase 2 50# used plates. saved about $30 on the two of them. They are basically unused. In the end decided the saving not worth time and gas. I could not find them closer used. Just new.

Have you thought about your training programme? Which exercises will you do? How are you going to get the required protein you’ll need to build your strong muscles?
