Greetings All,

I was not sure where to post this. I did a search and the closest thing I could find was music for sparring.

What music do you listen to when you train/workout?

We all have different taste in music. Here's a sample from my list.

Man Without Fear - Rob Zombie

The Little Things - Danny Elfman

Wish I Had An Angel - Nightwish

Eye of the Tiger - Survivor

Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas

So what do you guys listen to? Rock? Metal? Techno? Can you give the name of the artist and song?

Thanks!

I have never listened to music while training, but if I did, I would probably consider the following three. The names, and such are the videos themselves.

I like to listen to music while working out. Usually heavy rock. I'm jamming a lot to Nightwish, Kamelot and similar hard/proggish rock these days but it varies as I get new music into rotation.

I don't like to listen to music while training. It belies the seriousness of what I'm trying to learn to do and more importantly, as a musician especially, I tend to fall into the rhythms, which is ok when doing poomsae but not for doing a lot of other martial techniques

We use music when we do the warm ups, it's usually special CDs for kickboxing training or interval training. It does help concentrate or distract lol.

Wow! Hard to believe how much having an MP3 player and a huge list of tracks has kept me from hearing of musical groups.
Personally, AC/DC, or anything with a driving, somewhat repetitive beat.

For sparring or MMA training days I'll have some metal on. Lots of older Metallica and newer speed stuff.

For BJJ days, I like smoother stuff. Maybe some Marley or such. Kind of depends. Definably something that encourages flow and relaxation though.

I almost forgot... As a "concentration exercise", Sabumnim will BLAST Korean Pop music in the dojang randomly during sparring class!

Imagine this at 110 decibels while you're trying to keep your mind on your opponent as Sabumnim cackles at your clearly visible discomfort :uhyeah:

-I was just thinking that training to music you dislike might help your concentration. Especially if its music you despise. Sparring to something that gets on your nerves could do wonders. Or have you weeping in the corner, rocking back and forth, haha!

-At home I usually work out to talk radio.

For me, any kind of physical exercise is about mindfulness so music would defeat the purpose. But when I want to psych myself up, one of my favorite pieces is the overture to Leonard Bernstein's Candide:

Does that make me a geek? :ultracool

Honestly, I don't even have to LIKE the music for it to be good workout music... In fact, music I don't like, that has a driving beat, makes working the bag, and some other similar drills easier...

A little different take on this subject from an old guy.

I like music from the 40's. Not the schmaltzy material, but the bounce, boogie, get around music. I realize it's all probably a thing related to my age... I'm 61 in September. However, the music of that era was written during a time when war was in the world, and no one was sure who was going to win. The music was written in an upbeat, but if you listen carefully, an inciteful, spirit raising manner.

Just thoughts and in no way to be considered factual, except in my case. :ultracool
