Lock Bumping and how to Videos

From an e-mail I got from my brother who works at the FBI office in Washington... "Great, now I have to buy new locks!!! Look at this. The video said they would not show you how to make a bump key, however the youtube has other videos that do show you how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr23tpWX8lM&NR "
So what to do? Chain latches on the door? Nothing that a small pair of bolt cutters can't fix. The news report recommended alarms and pets and new locks. Still a determined theif will find a way in your house. But with this even an "undetermined" theif has easier access to the unprepared home-owner's domicile.
Scary stuff to be true, if you're not one of those fully prepared.

Should videos like these be banned? Should more home-owners be concerned? How well is your home protected?

Interesting. The thing about showing how to videos is that the wrong people will find the info they want anyway. Hopefully by making this stuff more readily available to the *uneducated* in such matters, it will heighten prevention. The simple solution is to put decent locks on your doors, which maybe more people will having been made aware of the situation due to these videos being available.

As a home owner you should be concerned and take the necessary precautions! Understand that the criminals already know this information and people need to know it in order to protect themselves. Having said this I do not like it that someone is putting the how to out there and yet it is an eye opener.

I just think it is amazing that lock design hasn't really changed in so many years. Lock picking has been around a long time, and it's kind of suprising it took as long as it did for this easy method of doing it to show up.
