Carol and omar, there are other schools of thought on the topic of using your wrist for sticks. A wrist snap at the end produces a good deal of power.And if it's trained correctly, it doesn't damage the wrist.

yep the SCA fighter can produce huge power with that wrist snap at the end of the strike... I know I can.
( that snap is usually called the "Bellatrix snap" in the SCA)

With regard to stick striking, mechanics associated with slashing aren't usually reliant upon the wrist, but if you look at the fairly common witik or abinico type strikes, those are heavily reliant on wrist flexibility and strength to do well and safely.

No problem disliking it! Probably should still learn it. The biggest question is if it is good material. To many people are putting a couple of stick things in their system and saying see we have stick work too. Here is hoping that this is not the case with what you are learning!
