Display for one black belt

It’s not meant to be tied a knot if it’s not around a waist

A you just making this stuff up?
I know I newer tied any of my belts other that they were around my waist, I admit that other may have done differently, sorry that I was shortsighted on this

Well, I would think belts only get tied where is a reason. Most reasons are when it is on to hold gi shut.

I have seen students being taught to roll up gi and then tie belt around it to hold it for transportation.

Yes when you say that I think I’ve seen that picture, but never in any dojo I’ve been to…. I think …..I have actually forgotten how that was done in Japan back when I was there….long time ago
Back in my native country Gi’s and belts was brought in “gym”bag

I was visiting a dojo near me about a year ago. I got there just as the class for beginning children was ending. about 10 students younger than 12 years old were spread out on the dojo floor, their gis spread out on the floor being shown how to roll them up and wrap belt around gi and throw the gi over the shoulder and hold by the belt. If they wore gi for class must have ended class, changed into street clothes, returned to floor with dojo to learn how to fold them.

At the dojo I attend, everyone, adults, uses gym bags. my personal bag is 10x18 and I can nicely for gi and lay it flat on bottom of bag. After my wife irons it, it reduces wrinkling during transport.

<Gasp> Your wife irons it? You should iron it!

Actually, you don’t need too iron it…

At 6:50 he rolls up gi and says "...and then I put my belt around it."

At the risk of revealing myself as an old crabby fuddy duddy male chauvinist pig, my observation is that many women feel they are judged, by other women, on the basis of their husbands appearance. So if their husband's appearance is bad it is their job to correct his appearance before he leaves the house. Mine will say something like you're not going out in those clothes together are you? (More of a command than a question).

I, on the other hand, would rarely criticize her choice of clothing. Another observation is that if there is a difference of opinion on the appropriateness of clothing choice between the man and women, everyone assumes the women is correct.

In my, our, household she does the laundry. And she is of the opinion that I will look better in my gi if it is ironed. So I agree with her.

One time I went to physical therapy for an injury. I had a favorite old tee shirt and shorts with knee high socks and sneakers on. The building was near my place of employment, so I stopped to talk to my boss on the way home. After my wife found out what I had done she called my boss to apologize for my appearance. Now, I understand that appearance counts at many employers offices. But, I worked at a large midwestern university in the United States. If you have visited one of these recently you would be amazed at what people wear in public.

In the end I would prefer to be happy rather than right. Happy wife, happy life. So she will continue to wash and iron my gis. At my age the issue of shortened useful life of the gi is of no value.

Ironing the Gi ?? Does the belt also taste the iron ?

Maybe if put som heavy iron(ing) pressure on the knot of the belt intended for display would make the knot accept it’s knotted state and stay put ?

No the belt is never ironed. I like it soft and comfy.

Tonight I went back to the dojo I mentioned above. I got there just as the kids class was ending. At the end most of the kids took off their gi and to my surprise they had street clothes under their gi. They then got on the floor and rolled up their gis and tied the roll with their belts. A few went into the locker room returned in street clothes and rolled their gi like the others.

What’s wrong with bags, why don’t they have bags??

There’s a TKD school here in my neighborhood, here TKD is primarily a kids hobby, and many kids in the neighborhood train at that school, seemingly all kids here go from and back home wearing their TKD Gi’s(belts around waist), their Gi’s are camouflage, one think it’s the army on the road in the neighborhood

I was just a spectator, carrying a message of what I observed. All the children in that class rolled their gis. There were 17 student in the children's class.

However, the adult class followed and all of those students had gym bags. There were 12 students in the adult class.

I think perhaps the procedure of folding/rolling up the Gi into a nice package meant to serve as sort of discipline developer for the kids
