embroidering a karate belt?

I can not read Japanese, so I do not know the meaning of the embroidery on Karate belts. The names of some styles in Kanji I recognize. I assume that the name of the style, Dojo and name of the person in Katana would be common. Are there any traditions, rules, expectations, do's and don'ts for embroidery? Do these vary by style, governing body, dojo or senior black belt at dojo?

I would imagine it all depends completely on the school. My school doesn't typically do embroidered belts. A different Kenpo school which my friend attends, awards black belt students with a belt embroidered with their name.

I’ve never heard of a traditional school of Japanese Karate imposing rules for what is, or is not appropriate on a blackbelt. But modesty is Japan is the norm, so one’s name and style would probably be the most that is acceptable. This information is also helpful for when you finally lose your marbles.

Ask your teacher to prevent a social faux pas.

It would, of course, depend on the styles origination (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc...) first and your school/instructor second. Maybe the opposite but my point is whether it is your schools norm to embroider their black belts. If so, and you have a local sporting goods store, see if the are a local embroiderer. Then make damn certain you get any lettering or logo correct.
One time I inadvertently had 75 gym bags embroidered with a TSD logo instead of TKD. Fully my fault.

When I was still in Shotokan, we were affiliated with the JKA, so the embroidery on the belt for the black belts are:

Left: Name of the Black Belter
Right: Japan Karate Association (Nihon Karate Kyoukai)

And then the lines will of course be the dan.
