A tale of two coaches

Grandmaster
Today, I ran the little kids class solo, and then another purple belt ran the big kid's class. Before class, we each got a text from our Professor, "today we're working mount escapes."

I started the little kid's class by adding bridges to the warmups. When it came time to teach technique, I ask the kids how many points you get for mount? Then I explain mount is one of the worst positions to be in, and taught the trap-and-roll escape.

My friend started the big kid's class by adding bridges to the warmups. When it came time to teach technique, he asked the kids how many points you get for mount? Then explained that mount is one of the worst positions to be in, and taught the trap-and-roll escape.

He did not see the technique portion of my class (let alone the warmups). We did not coordinate ahead of time. We just both came up with the exact same lesson plan and the exact same drills based on, "Mount escapes".

I've been chuckling about this all night.

Now a tale of three coaches.

Tuesday each coach (me as the little kid's coach, another coach for the big kids, and a third coach for the adults) were given instructions to do a single or double leg take-down, then a specific pass, then the other person goes turtle. First round of drilling is a back take from turtle, second round of drilling is the gator roll to escape turtle.

With the instructions "single or double leg", all three of us chose a single leg. Not only that, we all chose the same version of a single leg - same entry, same finish.
