Since posting that story I ran into an old friend who was teaching with me at the time. Mentioned it to him and he told me it's a form of mental illness similar to Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. Sad all around.

I was going to say it has to be Munchausen Syndrome or a similar illness. I have a parent at the school I teach at (academic, not MA) that has 3 kids that each have a different disease (Crohn's, MS, and can't remember the other). They're legit and not the imagination of the mother, but it really seems as if she enjoys the attention it brings her. All she talks about is her kids' illnesses and how SHE overcomes the hardships of watching and her schedule of running them to doctors appointments and giving them the best life she can. Quite pathetic.

Every teacher walked away from her asap. Luckily the youngest graduated last year.

Your's is far, far worse.
