Another bad *** Ghurkha story?
Are there any other kinds of Ghurkha stories? I haven't seen them...

There are a couple of explanations offered for the cutout. One is that it's a religious symbol (if you look at a large number of kukri, you'll see differences in the design). Others say that it helps prevent blood from running down the blade onto the hilt. Another claims use of it to break swords. Take that one for what it's worth... Awesome story! I have had the privilidge in my military days to have worked alongside Ghurka's and I have to say that they are the nicest and most polite men I have ever met. An honour to have seen them at work as it were, much more professional and down to earth than some Paras I have also worked with.
