pro tip: if you binge watch all the Yip Man movies in one night, that equates to about 2 weeks of hands-on training! LOL.

COOL!!!!! I will have to do that this weekend..... no need to even go to class then

But I also should confess...I did not watch Ip Man 3 last night....all I did was workout, work on Taijiquan, work on the Mook Jong form I'm learning, work on Siu Lim Tao, and do some of the drills my Wing Chun Sifu has me doing..... so.... I must confess...no movie.... so...I didn't train last night at all, I got lazy

Great class today, have not done this in a wing chun school before
Free style drills
first kind of a shadow boxing, only using one hand
Then an unscripted partner drill, partner throws 2 punches, any punches, you block
The 3 punches, same thing
then 3 punches and you can respond, with anything, block, strike, takedown.

It was a great class, tiring, but great

First time I saw the Mook Jong training was at Leung Ting’s school in Kowloon/HK in the late 80’s(I just by chance/fate “stumbled” in to the school) ever since I have wanted one although I don’t and never have studied Wing Tsun , but I never have had the space for a such device

They are likely considerably cheaper to purchase in China. The one I got was custom made in America. Which works out to probably the same price I would pay for a comparable one in China and have it shipped to the US

And I have wanted one for years, but could not justify it until my Wing Chun Sifu talked to me about teaching me the form

Bagua, Xingyi and even Sanda/Shanshou have something similar, but it is just a hard wooded pole with no arms. But in the case of the Sanda I trained, it was just hitting a tree.... and walls

After 9:30PM…. Still in my basement guan doing Wing Chun…. This may have supplanted my Xingyiquan addiction… don’t want to stop training, but i have to. Mrs Xue just told me she’s going to bed and i am, and i quote…”making to much noise hitting that tree” (mook)

If I didn’t have to get up so early tomorrow, i’d go back upstairs to train 2 more hours by watching Ip Man 3

The best training I can advise you is to spar using your wing chun with karate fighters, bjj fighters, muay thai fighters and many other martial arts. Spar, spar spar spar spar and spar.

Even today, do it. No matter what age. Sparring with the young guns out there and practically finding what works is better than training your first form to third form all the time.

Thanks, i’m good, Did JKD for a bit, showed me how old i am, In my 60s now, nothing against sparing, did a lot of it since i started this in 1972, would still do it if the opportunity comes up, but not my focus these days.

Going to checkout another lineage when I get back to the states. Nothing against the school I’m at, still think it is the best in the area, but it is just too far away, hour drive, hour class, hour drive home. And I’m getting old tired and lazy in my old age

you’re heading for HK now ? There should be some interesting WC related to look up..
Leung Ting’s school at least 37 years ago was on Nathan Road(Kowloon) maybe still there ?
