One example how I might use Gum Sao in a non traditional way. The idea is to have an effect over the entire body instead of just the limb.
Well, it's not my concept of "gum sau" either, but in my group we do use gum sau to stuff the head. Kinda-sorta. Here's the first thing I found on youtube. Side gum sau and sprawl to defend against a double leg (see 0.40 -0.55 below):
gum means to press and am pressing the back of his head so why is it not gum sao.
Yeah. There are so many flavors of gum sau.So what is gum sao?
And, to the OP's post...he even says he is using it in a non-traditional way.
Some people may think that to use palm to press down on opponent's arm is Gum Shou. But to use palm to press down on opponent's forehead, neck, or shoulder is not Gum Shou.Yeah. There are so many flavors of gum sau.
Kung fu wang tells you all. Gum sao is for lower attacks not head neck etc
Because you use other things for head and neck not gum sao...why would you change that ?That is a matter of opinion. How do you limit a concept? Why would you?
If the head/neck are in a location which would support the idea of gum sau...why not use it?
