TKD Leaders

Kindly define KKW & then please define the KKW's best interests?

There are so many things going on at the Kukkiwon that it is very difficult to keep up. Things change daily. Last night, they had a Kukkiwon Board of Directors meeting, in which they decided that the Secretary General of the WTF and KTA will be board members, as well as the Presidents of the Continental Unions. There are now 25 Board members. President Kang is of the opinion that Kukkiwon is subservient to the WTF, that the WTF is at the top of organizational chart for Taekwondo, which of course, is incorrect. People who are involved in the situation are gravely concerned that if things keep going the way they are going, Taekwondo will turn into boxing, and there will be no more Kukkiwon in ten or twenty years. This is serious stuff. I don't why I share this on MT. Maybe people will be happier if I stop and we can go back to discussions like how do you improve your front kick or whether down block is done with a bent or straight arm.

Personally I am concerned with this type of thing. If WTF becomes the deciding factor of which way TKD should head, then I believe we will lose the tradition and TKD will just build upon a sport only mentality.

That is why it will never be one, too many would not fall into this catagory.

I think the past corruption now has south Korea trying to establish a new team. Maybe some do not think that this new team is welcome, capable or going in a direction that the old school wants or would do. However many, including myself thinks something has to be done. I for one do not profess to know what needs to be done. I do however realize that there are competing interests working here. I am inclined to favor or give leeway to new leadership, as they may not have been involved in problems of the past. Also it is just plain common sense that those in power, wish to stay in power, often for self serving reasons.

That was the exact attitude that went into USAT, and look what happened to them. What is going on at USAT should serve as a severe warning. The next ten years will decide Taekwondo's fate for the next fifty years.

Well I hope it goes well & will keep my fingers crossed as well.

I wouldn't, but then again, anyone that is not interested does not have to read the threads that do no pertain to them or interest them.
Nothing prevents people from posting about technical questions, but then again we call our techniques by different names, use different tools at times & don't even have a down block. We do have several types of downward blocks though! ;)
OK I guess that can even get confusing, sorry
