You must be the deadliest man alive with all that training!

LOL ... I think not!!

I'm trying to just know I can protect myself is all.

The long private lessons are as such, I'm a kempo guy with a heavy Japanese influence. I'm now learning from a kempo master that is heavy in Chinese influence, kung fu. So a lesson like today was doing the Hung Gar Tiger/Crane, I think it was 5 times. Then, the last time, going through working two or more self-defense applications with each movement. Usually punch, kick and grab applications for each, at a minimum. I believe it is making my kempo much more effective and useful.

That's great! I assume it's elongating your kempo moves (even though it's a Southern Chinese art, not Northern)?

Yes, most definately, but I've just begun ... there's a long way to go. We are working the Hung Gar Tiger/Crane at the moment, but our base for Kung Fu also entails The Tiger Claw System, or Fu-Jow Pai. My Sifu also studied directly under GM Wai Hong. The GM still visits once a year, and I've had the priviledge to meet and speak with him.

More on Fu-Jow Pai: http://www.fujowpai.com/history.html

It's like being a white belt again, I'm enjoying it.

I enjoyed Uechi-ryu Karate, which is barely modified Southern Chinese Kung Fu, and really enjoyed Wing Chun. I'd like to get back to Wing Chun in fact. The snake appeals to me--distance, and you can get in effective strikes even if slightly off-balanced.

One of the toughest people I ever sparred was a Northern Mantis practitioner--weird moves.

Not too bad ... I do seem to have a bit of some sort of bug, maybe that's why I've been so darned tired lately. Might see if I can get into the doctor later.
That sucks and its funny, sucks for obvious reasons but is funny because there is a thread in the Health Tips section about the same thing.

Hope you feel better

B
