Tell me something good...

We saw the oncologist last Friday. He was not only pleased, not only happy, he was ecstatic about my wife's test results. Not just blood work, either. CT scan, bone scintigraphy, everything is looking great. They’d cut one of her medications (XGeva) because undesirable side-effects were starting to show and, in the doc’s own words ā€œyou don’t need it if your bones are healedā€ (which is, medically speaking, so close to impossible it might as well be, and yet, here we are). The XGeva is STILL off because she doesn’t need it and the next appointment is only in 6 MONTHS.

She’s kicking cancer’s ***.

This is the woman who was given two months to live in the beginning (30 June, 2022). The oncology department at our local hospital straight-up refused to treat her, saying it would do no good. Than goodness my wife wrote to this oncologist who at least, y’know, TRIED.

And all signs point that she’s done it. Holy crap.

Merry Christmas, everybody!
Miracles Do Happen!!!

Last week I managed to save $200 and earn the satisfaction of learning a new skill by repairing my own washing machine. (Replaced the suspension rods.)

The repairman quoted me a price for the job which was a little more than I paid for the washer in the first place. But since he understood that wasn't a worthwhile deal for me, he showed me how to do the repair myself. It ended up costing $137 for the diagnostic service call plus $40 for aftermarket parts from Amazon. (The total quote from the professional was $382.)

With my wife lending an extra pair of hands it took me about 75 minutes, but much of that was figuring out exactly what I was doing. I could probably get it down to 45 minutes on a second try.

I'm not the most experienced handyman, so it's always satisfying to be able to fix something on my own.
I hear there are at least 8 suspension rods in washers? I know one time all mine wore out that darn washing machine was all over the place, I did not know what was happening I jumped on it and it was still all over the place till I could shut it down! Which I don’t even know how I did that? Something good came out of it though, I learned about suspension rods.

My good news is that you still show up to chat, even with all that you have to deal with. I recently had some major injuries and I thought of your situation and it helps me to "exhale my situation and push through with what I can and when I can"

The one thing I don't want to do is quit small victories are still victories.

But for your good news, you have people to hear you out.
Never ever give up! Lost my special needs son, never had a chance to establish a career so never had a chance at having a family, have dyslexia, mild cerebral palsy, losing my hearing, both my parents are dying at the same time,
No one understands me at first, but in time they do(so very very hard at first) a little introverted but working on that, just don’t talk much! But intelligent, but been given the opportunity to make martial arts my life and I’m going for it, did very very poorly on my 2 degree brown belt test which I just hate like hell, but since it’s a journey it seems I have time. So everything works out in time, it’s just going through that time multiple times that’s hard. But will always stay humble and kind hearted!! Enjoy the journey!

4 suspension rods, at least in mine. I think that’s pretty typical, one in each corner.

Chin up buddy! Keep on going!

First adult winter steelhead I got this season. Fresh hatchery buck on the Chetco River. Good times and great dining.

I've never tried this kind of fish, is it good? My wife cooks salmon about once a week and sometimes halibut.
Steelhead is an anadromous salmonid, very similar to salmon but with a milder flavor. Most people can’t tell the difference by looking. Essentially an ocean going rainbow trout. This one was about 11 lbs but they get over 20 lbs in some River systems. They are extremely difficult to catch and fight like demons. They jump, flip, tail walk, try to take you into trees or rocks. We almost crashed the boat getting this one. Tomorrow the river will be Steelhead green! I will be fishing from dawn til 11 and then getting 6 hours of tattooing. Big Day!

I imagine it would be similar to sewin (sea trout). If so, yes, it's very very good
Ah sewin is welsh for anadromous brown trout. Similar to Steelhead. I imagine the taste is very similar. Is the flesh red or pink? Steelhead can vary between fire red or light pink flesh. I prefer bright red.

can't remember to be honest, it's been a long time since I had it. It's delicious though. I think it was pink. But it's still trout I guess. TBH if you go fishing around here you're more likely to catch a plain old rainbow trout. They're an invasive species- technically- but there's a lot of them. Not many salmon anymore, sadly. The Teifi used to be one of the best salmon rivers in the world, and it's been polluted to the extent that you're warned not to swim in it.

That’s terribly sad about your River. I was planning on fishing Scotland.
