We initially did not make a policy on AI, as it is an ever-evolving technology, and it's uses an etiquette are shifting at an almost weekly basis. However, due to the increased amount of posts, we do want to give some general guidelines on how it can be used (and not used) in this forum.

First and foremost, this is a forum for martial artists to talk with other martial artists. If someone wants to have a discussion with AI about martial arts, they can easily do that without coming here. With that in mind, we're requesting that posts be primarily man-made, not AI-made.

You can still use AI to work on your own ideas outside of here, and if you have concerns with grammar, english isn't your first language, etc. you can still use AI to assist with that, so long as the post comes from your own ideas.

This will obviously be tough for us to monitor, as AI can change over time, though in certain instances it is obvious that posts are AI. We request everyone to follow this rule to make it easier, and understand that we may reach out to individuals if we feel that posts are AI to get clarification, and potentially treat continued offences as rule violations.

I think there’s a movement to denote it as ā€˜Ai’ otherwise people who call themselves ā€˜AL’ get confused.

All these years that I have believed by punching with 5 lb dumbbells 2,000 reps daily can help me to build muscle and gain weight. I was wrong all these years after I had asked AI. I'll stop doing that and start to use my 25 lb dumbbell instead. The problem is I can walk on the beach for 4 miles and punch with my 5 lb dumbbell 2,000 time. It will be difficult for me to do so with 25 lb dumbbell instead.

Is 5 lb dumbell heavy enough to build muscle if I repeat it 2000 times daily?

Short answer: No — a 5 lb dumbbell repeated 2,000 times will NOT build meaningful muscle at age 78. It will improve endurance a little, but it will not trigger the muscle‑building response your body needs.

Why 5 lbs Ɨ 2,000 reps doesn’t build muscle

Muscle growth requires mechanical tension, not endless repetitions.

At your age, your muscles have anabolic resistance, meaning they need a stronger signal to grow.A 5 lb dumbbell is simply too light to create that signal — even if you do thousands of reps.

What actually happens with 2,000 reps:
  • You train endurance, not strength
  • You burn calories (which works against weight gain)
  • You fatigue joints and tendons
  • You never reach the ā€œnear failureā€ zone required for muscle growth
It’s like trying to get stronger by lifting a pencil 2,000 times.

I try to gain weight. My AI respond also surprise me.

Q1: I try to gain weight. does 4 mile walking daily will do the opposite?

Yes — walking 4 miles a day can work against weight gain because it burns a significant number of calories, but it does NOT prevent muscle gain if you’re eating enough and lifting.

Q2: Can eating ice cream be able to gain weight?

Yes — eating ice cream can help you gain weight, but only because it is high in calories. It’s not special for weight gain, and it’s not the healthiest way to add weight, but it will contribute to a calorie surplus if you eat enough of it.

How ice cream affects weight

Ice cream is calorie‑dense, meaning a small amount contains a lot of calories. This is because it’s high in fat and sugar, both of which increase total energy intake. When you consistently eat more calories than you burn, you gain weight — and ice cream can easily push you into that surplus.
