Otroverts

Or rather believing one has gained so much…it’s known as effort justification
Not at all. The gains are demonstrable in fitness, fighting ability, handling precarious situations... There are also non-demonstrable gains, though no less real, in joy of gaining aforementioned skills, accumulation of historical knowledge and understanding, confidence, amazing experiences and people met... I need not justify anything; the fruits of my effort are self-evident and bountiful indeed.

Then put me in that segment. Wrong is wrong. Society has nothing to do with that fact.
You are correct in that it is the three middle eastern death cults and their backwards ideas about how others should live that are responsible for judging and hating people that don’t share beliefs. Remember, if you are a member, judgement belongs to the lord, you are responsible to love your neighbor as yourself.

It’s odd reading only half a confusing conversation due to the use of the ‘ignore’ button and then sort of working out what’s been said. May, Thor bless the ‘ignore’ button…

For a bunch of people who claim to stand for decency and morality yadda yadda yadda, they sure do seem to think it’s their right to poke their noses into other peoples’ bedrooms. Kinda begs the question, who are the real perverts?

We know who they are because of redactions.

The irony does not escape me.

Highly educated science minds that believe in fairy tales as obvious as the three little pigs. I believe that the three little pigs may be allegory. You see, the pigs are the three abrahamic religions and the wolf is reality. The houses are belief. Now all I need are some absurd rules with which to oppress non believers and a false promise that beats paradise or 72 virgins…

Well this is a friendly place after all…

Emotional self regulation comes in many forms.

Wether it's obsessions of getting poked in the wrong place(god forbid:nailbiting:), or having subjective scientific theories(god forbid:nailbiting:). Uncertainty creates great distress and aversion.

The promise may be paradise or a theory of everthing without free parameters, if you only have faith in the paradigm of system dynamics and an a omnipresent observer and rule maker that sets the constraints.

Talk of obsession is relevant to my answer here. “Faith” could easily be conflated with psychological impairment like obsession. What if I have “faith” that an individual is a bigot? I may have no proof, so people will naturally say that I am incorrect. There is no such thing as “getting poked in the wrong place” or “god forbidding“. As far as subjective scientific theory, that is just a way to rationalize behavior when direct observation is unavailable. Like asking forgiveness from an invisible deity based on fear of eternal punishment or exclusion from a segment of society. Given the strident answers about belief in the efficacy of certain martial art training methodology, one might believe this topic deserves the same level of discussion for exactly the same reasons. Let’s pressure test these ideas and beliefs shall we?

Its kind of what the scripture tell, if one side is extreme to his side then the other side same amount extreme to her side. It’s the duality reality of this world, no left without right

I can’t believe a deity would really care about where anyone puts their genitalia. She has better things to do like killing innocents in illegal, unjust wars. Anyway, if She did find it an so objectionable why didn’t she make it mechanically impossible for one bit to fit in the other? Square pegs, round holes, Yale key, mortice lock, (ant)agonists and receptors etc. She doesn’t care…

I'm hurt that you put me on ignore
But not as hurt as you'll be when you blunder into the gin trap I set for you

For a bunch of self-described otroverts, there's a lot of wagons being circled in this thread. Maybe this thread could use a little less religious conversation. Don't get me wrong. I have a gay daughter and a trans daughter-in-law, and they're delightful. I agree with the general sentiment. But I think we could all get back to the topic at hand.

Personally, I think a lot of folks are paraverts, from "para" meaning alongside or nearby. Paraverts thrive in shared presence but aren't energized by direct social interaction like extroverts. They appreciate the company of physical presence, and don't find it draining as an intovert would. This might be a function of technology or a byproduct of the pandemic, but a lot of folks enjoy being around other people who have shared interests, without the pressure of direct interaction.

Key Traits
  • Comfortable with silence
  • Prefers companionship without conversation
  • Deeply attuned to atmosphere and emotional tone
  • Values presence over participation
  • Socially warm but not socially driven
  • Often the “calm center” in a group
Some examples:
  • Two people reading in the same room
  • Two or more people who enjoy walking together without talking
  • Working independently at the same table
Have you ever seen a group of people standing around a landmark all looking at their phones? They are probably all playing a game like Pokémon Go! together. They're mutually engaged and energized by the companionship, but with minimal conversation.

Ha. I think I'm the one being ignored. Who would ignore someone as loveable as you? :D
I'm pretty sure he's ignoring me too- I miss my interactions with that insufferable pillock :'( he's the best :'(

This isn't necessarily true. It's a phenomenon described as the Overton Window. If you "move the Overton window" more to one side or the other, then that moves the extremes further that direction. It's a political term, but without getting political and speaking just in general terms, the idea is that someone advocates for something that is very, very extreme... way outside the norm. This pulls the window further in that direction. While that thing may still be considered extreme, suddenly other things that were considered extreme are now discussed as a reasonable compromise.

The point being, extremes on one side don't necessarily generate equivalent extremes on the other. Generally, the opposite is true, where normalizing the extreme on one side simply pulls the entire conversation further that direction so that what was once considered normal on the other side is now considered radical. In America, we are experiencing daily things that would have been considered completely bonkers 10 or 20 years ago. Regardless of whether you agree or not, things that are being discussed now would shock even the staunchest conservative 20 years ago. And the political opinions of the average 1980s to 2000s conservative are now considered very liberal.

There is not a 'dislike' button so disagree it is. Which is also fitting IMHO.
