So a priest and a nun breakdown in a snow storm. The priest spots a cabin so they head inside. He says, “you sleep in the bed sister, and I will sleep on the floor”. After a few minutes the nun says,” father I’m so cold…” So the priest gets up and puts an extra blanket on her. Five minutes later she says the same thing,” father I’m so cold…” He gets up again and places another blanket on her. Five minutes later, again she complains of the cold. The priest sighs and says,” Ok, look, no one but God and us two will know what happens here tonight so let’s just pretend to be married for tonight.” The nun thinks about it and says, “ ok, just for tonight we will pretend to be married.” The priest smiles and says,” Good, now get up and get your own f@%#ing blankets.”

My friend is taking her vows today, All Saint’s Day! It seems they are initially for just one 1 year but the whole process of becoming a nun takes ten years! I suppose people change their minds after the initial experience.

The discernment process for most religious orders takes several years, beginning with inquiries and visits, and moving through le els of temporary vows or promises before final vows are made. Most also include opportunities to be turned away if a candidate doesn't quite seem to fit or be prepared.
