As horrendous as this crime was, and as depraved as the murderers seem to be, comparisons to Emmett Till's case are specious and without merit. Emmett Till's murderers were acquitted-these boys will surely be convicted, and two of them will likely get lethal injections. Emmett Till's murderers confessed to the crime after their acquittal. Emmett Till's case marked a pivotal moment, in 1955, in Mississippi, when white men were tried for killing a black boy, and black men-defying death threats-testified in open court against white men-pivotal moments in U.S. race relations and the very beginnings of the civil rights movement.

There is no "new Emmett Till." There can't be. There's just....... Emmett Till.


Comparisons-including with the Trayvon Martin case-are, as the OP stated-"stupid and absurd."

During an interview on MSNBC, Jackson was asked whether he thinks that "some on the right are making a false equivalency" between Martin and Lane, a young white baseball player allegedly killed Friday by three black teenagers.

"Yeah," he said. "They want to connect what happened in the Trayvon Martin case with these three young men on this foolish rampage killing this ballplayer."

Actually, few people are saying the two cases are equivalent. Rather, the two cases prove the opposite - there is a disparity in media coverage when the victim is white and the perps are black. Jackson set up a strawman that any two year old could knock down. Of course there are vast differences between the Chris Lane and Trayvon Martin killings. It's how society - via the media - portrays the violence and hypes the racial angle. That's what critics are trying to point out.

Chris Lane is not Trayvon Martin. If he were, there would be wall to wall coverage of his death and the racial motivation of the shooters would be front and center.
So much for Jackson's "analysis."

Apparently, sadly, Emmet Till's cousin doesn't understand the difference between a young boy in the old south getting beaten to death and the murderers going free, and Martin, from a broken home, starting down the path of drugs and the life of a criminal, attacking a man and following him to the ground and pounding on him...and then getting shot...in self-defense...

The point of all this is to manufacture despair. The polls Simeon Wright disparaged, by claiming he and his wife have never been consulted for one, are polls about the improving state of race relations in the United States. He’s saying those polls are full of baloney, because there’s still racism everywhere. And he doesn’t mean the kind of racism that led a couple of teenage black gang-banger wannabees to shoot Australian college student Chris Lane in the back while he was out jogging. Wright means institutionalized white racism, a fog of hatred and disdain that hasn’t cleared much since 1965.
The most obvious difference between the Left/media response to the Lane murder, and the Trayvon Martin shooting, is that mighty efforts were made to portray George Zimmerman as the agent of a cruel and racist system, not merely a trigger-happy racist himself. He became a pinata for gun-control activists. Loud and repeated warnings were issued that a legion of heavily armed, bloodthirsty homeowners and neighborhood-watch volunteers lurked from coast to coast, waiting to prey upon any young black man who wandered into their suburban kill zones.
The aftermath of the Zimmerman trial has been a concerted nationwide effort to attack Stand Your Ground laws, which had nothing to do with the shooting of Trayvon Martin… but they’re supposedly a totem of the evil System that keeps minorities down.
