Have you ever used Iron Rings when doing your forms; Siu nim tau, Chum kiu, Biu jee?

Beyond strength training, what are they for, if anything?

Back in the day...Tibetan White Crane.

The rings served a number of purposes. They toughened the skin as they moved up and down the arms during movement. They also helped you understand and control the inertia of your own movement as the rings slid up and down the arms or legs. A hula hoop comes to mind—you had to learn to work with the movement of the rings rather than just their weight.

We made ours out of car springs—cut them, welded them, and sanded all the rough edges around the weld. You soon found out if you missed a rough spot... 😳

We also used something called mok yi pai, or ā€œwood locksā€ā€”kind of like kettlebells. Lots of different devices were used to train the body, developing different skill sets.

Different times... 😳

Weight and speed don't go together. The guy in this video has great chance to tear his shoulder joint or elbow joint muscles.

I have no problem to punch with 5 lb dumbbells 1,000 times with full speed. I have problem to punch with 12 lb dumbbells even 200 times with slow speed.
