You are right on that too, after researching further, deadlifts do use the hamstrings in addition to the upper body lifting weight. Same action as rising from a squat, maybe not as deep. Good mornings extend the upper body out, mostly for the back, doesn't do much for strengthening hamstrings if your trunk is only extending parallel to the floor unless your version goes down more to the floor. We stretch to the floor as well but that is a stretch for the hamstrings and not with weight of course.

Still, my advice on the VM muscle comes from my physical therapist and I have noticed a big change in power from working that muscle with weight individually. It definitely helps with the inside crescent kick. TW
