I want to join a field that I am familiar with but there are no martial arts equipment shops near me that are advertising for "Sales Assistant" or "Retail Assistant" wanted on the local job pages. And it would be weird to simply call up any shop or email them just to ask if they have job vacancies all of a sudden for no reason. So does anyone know how I can join the field? Thanks in advance.

Look on shop website career pages. Or just email them. What's the worst that could happen? They say no?

No, it wouldn't be wierd. Cold calling is a tried and tested way of getting yourself a job. Good luck.

I met a dojo owner who had nice fighting gear. (leather head gear, leather slip on boxing gloves, leather heavy bags)

I asked him where he got them. He told me his father owned a large department store in the city they lived in and it had a sporting goods department.

His father told he to call the company and tell them you want to be a distributor. So I did.

You had to buy a minimum amount of equipment to start and buy X amount going forward. So I bought ten leather headgear, ten pairs of slip on boxing gloves and five leather heavy bags (eighty pounders).

I didn’t sell them, I wanted them for the dojo I had just opened.

With that, I became a distributor for TUF-WEAR. I loved their equipment.

I did the same thing with Century Martial Arts and a few others.

I don’t know if any of that helps, but it’s what I was lucky enough to be able to do.
