I'm very glad that you wrote this. I always referred to it as Blue Belt Syndrome and thought that I coined the phrase. Apparently not. Your article explains the syndrome very well. Thank you for posting it.

My old Chinese sifu had a saying for this: The bottle that is half full makes the most noise.

I didn't quite get it, so he explained that an empty bottle makes no noise if shaken, and neither does a full one. But a half full bottle sloshes loudly, and likewise, the student with a little knowledge is very noisy!
