Yup. I can think of some people I would love to train with from here, both because I would seriously enjoy just meeting up with them and training or going to a bar with them. I could also learn an immense amount from the different types of experience everyone on here has got.

Edit: Didn't you suggest a bit ago like a big meet up for everyone on here? Did anything ever come of that?

I did throw that question out there, yes. I realize it would be difficult, who has time for anything these days? And I'm sure the wives would be thrilled....course if they came, they might have a ball.

But, hey, you never know. Maybe we could come up with a central location easy for everyone....I have a suggestion....how about Maui? :) The off time could be fun. Beats a sharp stick in the eye anyway.

There was one, years ago in Buffalo, when the mighty Bob was still running the place. I was not able to make it, but many did. Sadly most of those folks no longer post here, but there was a get together once upon a time.

Wish I had been here then, sounds great. And I love Buffalo. The only guys I've met from our forum our are tshadowchaser [R.I.P], we went to a big Kenpo thing together, had a ball and @Brian VanCise when he was out here. Hey, Brian, when you coming back, bro?

Had a chance to hook up with Tony a few years back when he was in the Boston area, but I was called out of town for a few months. My loss, and, man, it still pisses me off.

Yeah and you seemed to CONVENIENTLY move to Hawaii when I was heading out to Boston :D

Meant Dale Dugas briefly, and it was great meeting @Brian R. VanCise when I was in Vegas a month ago and it was equally great meeting @mograph too when I went to Canada, and had the good fortune to train, albeit briefly, with @NYFIGHTSOURCE. Still hoping to get back to Canada and Vegas again to see how they are doing. There are still a few people on MT I would enjoy meeting face to face.

I did not know about tshadowchaser, sorry I was not able to met him when he was in my area, but the youngest had places to be and I was the only taxi available that day.

Buffalo, NY? I did 2 years out there. Actually, Niagara Falls (grad school), and I don’t miss ANYTHING about it. Except for the chicken wings. I haven’t had good chicken wings since I left, and yes, I keep trying to find them. Beef on weck is ok. I don’t get people raving about it though.

I’ve got to go drive to Toronto for my cousin’s wedding in May. Going to stop by a local pizza and wings dive in Niagara Falls, hit the reservation to fill my gas tank, then get out clean. We’ll also let our daughters see the falls, which will be all of 10 minutes before they get bored of seeing water flow over a bunch of rocks.

Edit: The casino in NF (US side) had a great buffet back in the day. Dungeoness crabs :) My wife’s allergic to shellfish, so it’s a no-go.

Perhaps I should cut and paste this to the drifting arguments thread.

I wouldn't mind training with him, myself. And, yeah, I know what some folks initial reaction to that statement would be. But don't you think it would be fun? At the very least interesting?

I know a lot people that dislike Seagal as a person and a martial artist. I think he a big figure in the martial arts world he one of the reason I love the martial arts.

Currently, I would like to train with Matsuki Hatsuumi. The founder of bujinkan ninjutsu, which is what I practice. How would I turn that down?

Of all time? Bruce Lee, would be amazing to see his training routine first hand, and maybe learn some jeet June do as well.

Do you mean Masaaki Hatsumi? ...At least that's how I've seen the name spelled, but then I have nothing to do with that art.

You know who else I have always wanted to train with? Gene LeBell. Man, what fun that would be. Like training with an encyclopedia.

Who's the one person you'd love to train with most who you haven't done so already

Personally I've done a lot of reading lately and I'd have loved to train with Joe Lewis. From what I've read he seems to have a lot of the same opinions on subjects as I do. He seems like a no nonsense type of guy who believes in the traditional values while also having a very modern approach to training and working out. I also like his fighting style and his use of the side kick which is my favourite kick and in my opinion a very underrated kick.

Got to do a lot of training with Joe over the years, and did even more training with him in the kitchen of my house. Those that never met him don't realize how articulate and cerebral he was.

But I did make one big mistake. One day in the dojo I picked up a couple of kicking shields and hounded him to throw a sidekick as friken hard as he could. He said "You don't want me to do that."

I said, "Yeah, I do."

So he did.

Turns out he was one hundred percent correct.

I've actually made that mistake with several people. I am very slow on the uptake.

But who I would really like to train with is all you guys on MT. I mean, hell, we talk chop until the cows come home, I can only imagine the fun we'd have in person. And I feel like I know you guys a bit. Maybe not much, but there's definitely a kinship. I like kinships. :)

Always a good time training and talking with people from MartialTalk! I have been blessed to meet many of you and look forward to meeting more of you in the near future! That connection is like Buka said, a kinship and that connection is important!

I have had the opportunity to train with many famous martial practitioner's some were great, some good, some were outright bad. The most important thing is to train! Find someone you enjoy training with and train whether they have a big name or not!
