Color trim on martial uniforms

Awhile back I purchased a pair of GI pants, used on ebay. They looked pretty decent in the pictures.

When I received them they were junk. Across the top of the waist band, where the draw string goes there were probably 25 worn through holes. frayed. each less than 1/2" in length. The draw string remained in its channel. But looked crappy.

At the top of each leg cuff there were worn holes. Largest 2". I complained to seller. No response.

I figured I had nothing to lose by trying to fix them. I made a 2" wide piece of double fold bias tap to sew over the waist band. I was careful to not close any of the waist band channel when sewing.

Turns out the legs were slightly to long to fit me well. So I cut off cuffs at the top, where the holes were. Took some white denim material made new cuffs and sewed them on with 4 rows of stitching. Original cuff had 9 rows stitching. I figured 4 would suffice for me. The GI I was given when I signed up has only one row of stitching.

Actually, I am pleased with how the pants came out. Guess I am not as aggressive as Gyakuto and decided to use a more subdued color, tan, than he did.

At the dojo I attend the last element of warm up is to remove the jacket and then do the Sanchin Kata. So the waist band repair is obvious. The tan bias tape on the jacket inside is not.

If you look close on the jacket inside flap you can see a pocket I added to it. I have serious allergy reactions, most year round with nasal drainage. So a handkerchief is useful. Helps keep the floor clean (TMI). Just putting it inside the tied jacket did not work well for me.

You did all that sewing yourself?😳 Crikey you have a talent!

For your 90th birthday, I’m buying you the brand new keikogi of your choice. Anyone at all!

Did it all myself. Original cuff had 3 layers of fabric. So I made my replacement cuff also with 3 layers of fabric. But, I did not sew 9 rows of stitching. LOL. But fits me quite good. So even though I got over charged on the purchase I am happy with the way the pants turned out.
