This discussion has been circular as long as I can remember. (much longer than I'd care to think about) As has the discussion of one strike to disable your opponent. Life is much messier and for most of us, I think we would be better served by recognizing that we are not invulnerable, we will get hurt, and that multiple techniques should be mastered to provide the maximum chance of surviving. As most of us will never use our discipline for real we need to think in terms of what is most likely to work on our feet, on the ground, against blindside and multiple attacks and weapons. As much as possible, we then need to learn the mental discipline to allow our training to take over before we are overwhelmed.

We actually drill technical stand up often, ie, how to stand up when your opponent is on his feet and you are not.
