A slight deviation; I seem to have a (un)conscious bias where I gravitate toward books which are written about traditional Japanese martial and other arts that have been authored by Japanese people! I donāt seem to value the ideas and opinions of occidental authors for some reason (notable exception is Dave Lowry). Part of this comes from being repeatedly told and believing that Japan and its people are so subtle and hidden behind a barrier of etiquette and tradition, that unless you are born there and deeply marinated in its culture, you have no way of truly understanding their culture and arts. And yet youI think you can be a foreigner in a country but still really be totally integrated; Iām not genetically English but I know far more about the culture/history/traditions than those who are, and behave accordingly.
Does anyone else have this bias?
