The U.S. seriously impacts the world economy so why not give the world a vote in the upcoming election? "The Economist" is doing that...sort of..

For all the non-Americans who wish they could have a say in who will lead the U.S., still the most powerful country in the world, The Economist is giving you a vote in the upcoming presidential election.

Well, sort of.

The London-based business magazine developed a digitized global version of the U.S. Electoral College, based on the population of each country, that went live today.

The U.S. election is a closely watched contest not only stateside but also overseas, said Ron Diorio, The Economist's VP-product and community development in New York.

Well, we wouldn't be impacting the world economy for very long, that's for sure.

Interestingly enough this does about coincide with what all my overseas friends have said regarding who they would like to see as the US President.

How ironic that Obama has the vote in South Africa and ONLY in South Africa, no where else on that continent.

You'd think the middle eastern countries would've at least had an opinion... oh wait... they still hate us... never mind.

Bush is actually a favorite in Africa right now due to the large amount of aid his administration have given to various causes there like AIDS treatment and housing development. That's probably part of the reason for the map projection.

Do they read "The Economist" in the Middle East?

There was an editorial in the Chinese national paper recently calling for a single, global currency. It may not be too many generations into the future where every election will be for world positions instead of national elections.

To paraphrase (mangle the hell out of the quote) Stalin:
"How many electoral votes has Europe?"
Then and now, the answer is none.

......I'd like to buy the world a coke and keep it company......(sigh) yeah, what if the world could vote in this election......

Thanks to lax immigration practices, a large part of the world will likely be voting in our election...... along with the more traditional voting fraud by those who have moved on to the next world.

How about those enlightened folks who voted Hitler, Jr into power in Iran? We could sure use their input.

North Koreans, among others, wouldn't even understand what "vote" means. The Dear Leader can tell ya all about it.

Maybe we should let the Zimbabwe folks vote here. They'd at least get a shot at an election that wouldn't be nullified by a homicidal tool of a maniac.

Think the wait to vote is bad now? What if we did let the Chinese vote here?

So what if we did let the world in? I'm guessing the "Death to USA" party would win in a landslide.

the "world" is notoriously stupid

Wow. Been to Europe have you? Toured what is left of the cathedrals that have stood since the 1500's. (Know what a flying buttress is?) You've seen the art works housed in Paris? You've walked the streets of Rome? The "world" gave you antibiotics, analgesics, X-rays, gun powder, quantum physics, Martail Arts and "Intel Inside".
lori

Yeah, but the world refuses to play along with my rampant jingoism resulting from crushing insecurity, so **** it. Who needs 95% of the World population? Scratch that, 97.5% of the World population, since half of America are a bunch of limp dicked Euroweenie socialist traitorous Democratic scum.

How "the world" views your country should be somewhat important too you as it has a pretty large impact on your country.

These things count, economically you need the rest of the world, you might not like to admit it, but you do.
With as much money as we give out in foreign aid, as many products that are made nowhere else, and as big a consumer the US is, they ALL need us.

I have done all of these things, and you can add school in Holland, cruising the canals of Venice and the Rhine, marveling at the castles of Austria and Bavaria and so on...... a wonderful and unforgetable set of experiences that more Americans would profit from.

However, I think that you may concede that these ancient marvels say little or nothing about the condition or intellect of the modern inhabitants. There are many places in the world where degenerates dwell among the rotting grandeur of the past..... and you know we can indeed learn from that. It is a warning.
