Tez (and Mark and all Brits-Scots-Welsh-Irish - oops, have I left anybody out) on MT

best of luck for a wonderful time - I have friends in London right now - they will be live blogging about
their visit, w/tickets to women's soccer. I suggested trying to get tickets to equestrian events. i've been to
jumping competitions in London (outskirts) and it was one of the moist exciting things I've ever seen.

Love London, love all of you wonderful, crazy, idiosyncratic (not idiotic), buttoned-up, completely British
people. I'll be watching and cheering for you all.

I stepped out for a few minutes and missed when James Bond and the Queen flew in. But somebody uploaded it to Youtube already :) click here

This may help if some are still puzzled by parts of the opening ceremony! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18983558

For me, very fond memories of my parents were evoked by the shipping forecast, we used to listen to it on the radio when I was little, it's magic! I've never heard the national anthem sung so beautifully as by the deaf and hearing children's choir. Amazement when it turned out it really was the Queen and not an actress, sadness at 'Abide with me', always sung at Cup Finals and at military funerals. Great fun, it was tongue in cheek, amusing, nostalgic and did us proud!

Not sure about bringing out Mohammed Ali though, I can understand the wish to honour him and if I was sure he wanted to be there and enjoyed himself I'd be happy but am just not sure.

Btw we could pick out the military members of the American team by the way they wore their berets. We enjoyed that, smart!

I haven't seen what is on YouTube with regard to "Happy and Glorious" (linked by grumpy above) but here it is on the BBC:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19018666

Like Tez, I grinned like a loon when I realised that it was not an actress but actually Elizabeth II herself being escorted by 007!

That was quick! It was taken down as quick as it went up - due to copyright issues no doubt. Thanks for the official bbc link.

Holy cow, that bike race was something. I thought for sure that would be going to Cavendish. Congrats to Alexsandr Vinokurov for winning gold for Kazakhstan at age 38

Great job on the opening ceremony.

Kudos to HRH to do this.

I can't help but think of the stones it must have taken to approach the Protocol Office. "We have this idea for HRH's entrance..." :D

I'm watching the women's weight lifting, not something I do normally so know nothing about it but these girls are small, slim and toned, wouldn't look out of place at the beach volleyball and they are lifting over 200lbs, amazing! How do they do it, they have no bulging muscles or tree trunks legs?

Is there some back story to the beach volleyball that I don't know. Several people have thanked the Queen for allowing them to play
Are they just general thanks because she's in charge or is there more because I don't see other sports doing it.

I haven't heard that but I'd assume it's because it's being held on Horse Guards Parade which is hers.
