btw: Google returns about 483,000 for bush hitler on an image search.
Seems I'm not the only one making the comparison.

more people than that listened to Backstreet boys.

do you REALLY want to go with "commonality lends credibility"?

So weve stopped talking about the Act and how its actually written/implimented now?

PA=Constitutional Violation is a logic violation.

Never said we should "trust the government". But laws and Acts are necessary components of security and justice. Wanting to scrutinize the PA is great, calling it "Orwellian" and dismissing it out of hand without really looking at it isnt.
I read it until my eyes glazed over when it was pushed through and had numerous hour long discussions (ok, arguments) about it with several connected individuals. Years later, my opinion that it was an ill advised, poorly considered, and rushed bit of legal BS hasn't changed.

It may look like my mind is set, but it isn't. I'm glad to see when people can really debunk things that I bring up. But I haven't seen much in years to change my opinion on it.

I think the 2 are interconnected.

The original topic of this thread was Government spying on citizens.
The PA is a good part of what makes that "ok" to them.

someone asked me "what would be too much?"

really simple answer

If they monitored every call inside the US, that would be too much (not to mention impossible)

but all calls comming to the US from the ME? those NEED to be monitored, it's just common sense.

Not necessarily impossible. In fact, not impossible at all.....

elder, i will grant you that all domestic calls could be scanned by voice recog software, for keywords, but the shear number of people it would take to do it manually, and the volume of calls there are domestically, makes me think it would/could never happen.

WHAT!!!

Didn’t you see The Simpsons Movie?

For crying out loud they showed the way the Feds trace EVERYTHING from calls to conversations… I mean that is how they caught the Simpsons…sans Homer of course :D

Back on topic for a moment here, I'm quoting Bruce Schneier, an American cryptographer, computer security specialist, and writer. He is the author of several books on computer security and cryptography, and is the founder and chief technology officer of BT Counterpane, formerly Counterpane Internet Security, Inc.

NSA's Warrantless Eavesdropping Targets Innocent Americans

Remember when the U.S. government said it was only spying on terrorists? Anyone with any common sense knew it was lying -- power without oversight is always abused -- but even I didn't think
it was this bad:
Faulk says he and others in his section of the NSA facility at Fort Gordon routinely shared salacious or tantalizing phone calls that had been intercepted, alerting office mates to certain time codes of "cuts" that were available on each operator's computer. "Hey, check this out," Faulk says he would be told, "there's good phone sex or there's some pillow talk, pull up this call, it's really funny, go check it out. It would be some colonel making pillow talk and we would say, 'Wow, this was crazy'," Faulk told ABC News.
Warrants are a security device. They protect us against government abuse of power.

and again, do you really think they are wasting thier time listening to people they KNOW are innocent americans?

I'd feel better if they spent more time on tracking down real terrorists, than calling group titter sessions over phone sex. Then again, maybe it's code.

"I've got your big one right here" really means, "My scud is ready to launch".
