To tide me over…

About 2 years ago I was gone for a week. One of my sons, 50+ years old, asked if he could clean up my 10'x10' shed while I was gone. It was packed full of "stuff". I said yes. When I got back he had rented a dumpster and thrown everything away! including the shed. I was devasted. Part of me was gone.

I have since offered two other children to sell my stuff on ebay and split the money. Neither was interested. So I am doing it myself. Sad.

You need a shot of Buddhist philosophy and think about the idea of non-attachment…it’s very difficult and I can’t live that way.

You’re son probably needs things written out carefully, step by step since he clearly has little in the way of ‘theory of mind’.

There are probably companies who’ll do that for (for a cut, of course). It’d make your life much easier.

Well, I have an interesting development on the pain in my legs. A few weeks back I had to find a new doctor as the one I had moved to California. So I had to get lab tests and meet with her to set up. She changed a few of my meds. She said they were newer versions of drugs I was already taking.

At the same time my neighbor recommended his chiropractor to me. So I signed up for him. He diagnostician my problem and recommended adjustments. An I have been going once a week. and have noticed a significant reduction the level of pain I have in my legs. So I had to admit the chiropractor was actually happening. Contrary to my experience with several chiropractors earlier.

Well, I found out today that my new doctor had added two prescriptions for the pain in my legs! My daughter was there and said the doctor told me what she was doing it just did not register with me.

Now I don't know if the improvement was from the chiropractor or the MD's new meds? My fault entirely. LOL.

Well, the bottom line is you pain has reduced and that is fantastic news which you should celebrate. Have you considered that your improvement might be due to a combination of manipulation and the medication?

Muggles think that our body’s systems are linear systems like clocks; add this drug/supplement/therapy and the cogs turn by this much reliably each time and you reliably get this result. In fact our bodies are dynamic, complex, non-linear systems; everything interacts with each other, uniquely in each person which is why some medicines/therapies work for some people and, at a certain doses and less so or not at all others. This is why doctors start you on the lowest dose of medication and then ‘titrate’ the dose up and/or down until the desired effect. It’s hugely complex and people just don’t get it🤷🏾‍♂️

If you’d like to know, you could halt your chiropractic adjustments for 2-4weeks and see if your pain changes. If it doesn’t, you can forget about them and save a lot of money!

Actually, I have not. I sort of assumed that it would be due to one or the other. Not both. But, I now recognize that is a distinct possibility. Thanks.

The chiropractor said today that in a week or two he would recommend a daily walk to help improve things. The pain is reduced, not gone.

I mentioned that back in June when I had the rhizotomy a friend had back surgery where they placed 2 metal rods next to his lumbar spine and attached them at the top and bottom to deal with the same issue I am having. I talked to him today and his progress is very slow. He is using a walker and not doing well at all. Also in physical therapy.

I believe the glass is half full, not half empty.

Thanks.

It’s more likely to be the medication in my opinion and a bit of placebo perhaps?

Walking is great exercise. After a certain age dont we all just wake up with a new pain?

Recovery from surgery at a senior age, is slow. One’s cell has poorer recuperative abilities and a less optimal protein and fluid intake (common in older people) slows things further.

A positive attitude is really helpful….long may it continue.

I have a few collections and lots of misc stuff. One collection has items value at around $1000 each. but none of my children have any interest in any of it.
They’re not interested in obtaining $1000s with a bit of effort?

They are very interested in me "gifting" them cash. But, not if it requires any effort.

With my medical limitations I have asked to them to do small chores that involve lifting and, for which I pay well. No takers. Sad state of affairs.

I am thinning the herd, so to speak, by throwing/giving away items. But, at a small pace. In the they will probably need to hire a dumpster after all.

Thanks.

Jeez. What do you have that you think is worth 1k each? Maybe post a pic if it’s martial arts related or send a dm!..

My only experience with a katana was when I was in high school 10 years after the end of world war II an army surplus store sold letter openers that looked like small 6" katanas.

I thought they were so cool. I would buy one. My mom would find it and throw it away. I would buy another she would throw it away. Repeat. LOL

They were quite sharp. I cut myself several times. I don't know how well they held an edge as they were quickly thrown away by my mother.
