The "Look! Look at my cool workout!" thread

I'm changing the way I do things. Aerobic runs and circuit training. Really. It's not the best way of building strength, adding muscle mass or improving cardiovascular fitness. But it does all these things at the same time, and some of them quite well. Also, it seems that aerobic workouts deliver the hit I need to stay sober. So. 3 times a week running and twice a week circuit training. And i'm going back to actual karate training. I really, really miss it
Sounds like a fantastic model to me. Keep up the good work!

Had a really rough day internally and wasn't able to get to karate. I know, probably what's best would have been to go, be with people, train etc, but just not in the headspace at all...

Managed to train at home and it was really nice.

-5 minutes Zhan Zhuang standing meditation: really great check-in to the body doing this, seeing where tensions are etc... not something I'm well experienced with but am exploring.
-Tensho: interestingly it felt like the Zhan Zhuang had some sort of impact on this... my body felt really unified and connected through the movements, AND my gaze was much better. Usually it drifts downwards but it held steady out to the horizon. Really interesting...
-Warmup on the heavy bag, a weird way to warm up but here we are! Mixing it up.
-Kihon, everything x20: Focus on power and intensity
-2x Sepai: 1x water version (which means no real power at all, doing it with flow and not stopping between techniques), 1x with power
-Bag 1x 2m round: freestyle
-2x Naifunchi Shodan : 1x water version, 1x with power
-Bag 1x 2m round
-2x Gekisai Sho : 1x water version, 1x with power
-Bag 1x 2m round (music off for last round, so I could just hear my breathing and the sounds of strikes thwacking the bag)

Sometimes I go in with a theme, other times I won't plan a single thing, and then others I'll write down some stuff I wanna work on, and the theme becomes apparent afterwards. Was like my inner self knew the theme and orchestrated it without me knowing haha.

Oh and for something different I trained by candlelight haha. The candlelight... the windows fogging up, breath, intensity, flow, swishing of the dogi... There's a real poetry in solo training... a sentiment of stepping into your aloneness to explore a depth you don't quite understand, but are willing to step into.

Cool! I'll have to try training by candlelight

Don't believe I have ever trained by candlelight. But I would certainly set the mood!

Once in a while My Sifu would blind fold everyone and turn off the lights. Then we had to go through our non linear forms. He would tell us to go faster each rep. There were surprisingly only a few collisions, a couple were moderately painful (fist to back of hand). We called this exercise ā€œStevie Wonder bumper carsā€.

Actually, I'm not changing the way I do things. After scything and cutting down trees for 6 hours and walking home I will be in no fit state to do a 45 minute circuit. I'm just going to shift into maintenance mode and focus on improving my pushups. A quick tight 30 minutes of pushups presses, ab wheel rollouts, swings and kata followed by technical exercises, makiwara and stretching and I will be done

Also, balancing on one leg and firing off choku zukis is a lot harder with your eyes shut!

I'm having to add biceps curls, not as a mirror muscle thing but because I have a pain in my bicep insertion and I've been advised to do strength exercises specifically for the biceps. Once the pain has abated.

SMR is a rabbithole. You start off with just a foam roller and a tennis ball, and before you know it you are eyeing up random objects and wondering what it would feel like to rub against them. It's also surprisingly hard to get a normal foam roller for a normal person. Most of them either look like some freakish and ambiguous sex toy, or they're too squashy
