What are your thoughts on the best way to get a standing submission?

Most (if not all of them) of this submissions is on the groud. Action starts on feet but the end is on the ground.

Really good stuff. Arm is in pain just watching it. Like most combat judo locks and bars they start off standing and go to ground. Hopefully you stay in a dominant controlling position.

If you can use the "head lock + reverse hip throw" to lift your opponent's feet off the ground, you can choke him out while standing.



This is the ancient assassin skill "beggar carry dog - kill a dog without making a sound".

Seem like the opponent could simply roll off. We’ll try it in class this weekend. Fun.

Watch at 5:50. There is a competition footage and afterwards a footage of a trainer which explains the set up.
Basically you make a basic "arm and head hold" while pushing his head to the side, then you immediately let go of the pressure to the head and go for the kimura lock.
BTW, a set up for using the standing kimura for knife defense (shown against 100% resistance):
