Hey Celtic Crippler :) and I understand why you are maybe a bad ol crippler! but are you Irish expatriate or of celtic descent maybe?? sorry for being nosey I know some of the best Irish folk home in London! And wow! this is a good choon fer sure but I would have to say 2 Minutes is my personal Maiden fav... I mean.. they just do not write RRRROCKK like this anymore ha!!

The body bags and little rags of children torn in two
And the jellied brains of those who remain to put the finger right on you
As the madmen play on words and make us all dance to their song
To the tune of starving millions to make a better kind of gun

whoa! light em up and rock on!! ha!

The problem is that "Hast" in German is "have" and "hasst" is Hate, and they are pronounced identical , and to someone who doesn't speak German this is confusing. Here is what the song would look like once I put the words back the way they go:

Du
Du Hasst
Du Hasst Mich

Du hast mich gefragt
Du hast mich gefragt
Du Hast mich gefragt
Und Ich hab nichts gesagt

Willst du bis der tod euch scheide
Treu ihr sein fur alle tage?

NEIN!

NEIN!

It's about a man refusing to marry as I will translate( the first half is my rough English translation and the rest is Rammstein's lyrical translation as they wanted it to rhyme in English( it doesn't in German):

You
You hate
You hate me

You have asked me
You have asked me
You have asked me
And I have said nothing

WIll you until death does sever/
Be upright to her forever?

Never!

Never!
Ahh my friend :) you are clever too clever to notice this!! Of course I agree with this absolutely speaking a little myself though I will not say I am the best german speaker far from it but I posted the alternative against my better judgement as yes that is the translation on this here sleeve I have and who am I to argue with the wisdom of these all-knowing all-seeing mighty record labels ha!

Thank you for letting the truth be told!!! :)

Ah, Mr. Bryan Ferry. Sleazy? Perhaps...perhaps. I loved Ferry and, especially, Roxy Music.

As far as my heart on my sleeve? I will not argue that point; for, it is true.

More than this
Egg :) ahh I see you are led away down the flowery scented paths my friend and who am I to stop that!! And I will give to you what if for me one of the alltime cleverest "love" songs written exactly because it is written with that typical defiance that I know a whole lotta guys have.. and I'm Not In Love from 10cc which I hope you know them I am not certain if they were WW or just UK.. sorry.. and the music to this is dreamy

I'm not in love, so don't forget it, it's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up, don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made
I'm not in love, no-no it's because...

I like to see you, but then again, that doesn't mean you mean that much to me
So if I call you, don't make a fuss, don't tell your friends about the two of us
I'm not in love, no-no it's because...

..Be quiet, big boys don't cry

I keep your picture upon the wall, it hides a nasty stain that's lyin' there
So don't you ask me to give it back I know you know it doesn't mean that much to me
I'm not in love, no-no it's because...

Ooh, you'll wait a long time

Everything under the gun
Hey TechnoPunk my buccaneer friend :) wow Sisters still going strong I am cheered to know that.. and how are they standing up to the rigours of time I wonder and more importantly... what do they LOOK like now??? and I know lots did not follow Wayne Hussey on his departure but I thought his stuff was always much more.. open I think is the word and well my fav is always Severina and I was silly for seeing myself as the girl in the song when I was younger ahh but you will forgive me for that!! ha! what a track I give the best verse as I am sure you know it already! oh.... who else you got on your machine playing???

As for my song, the artist was a ballad singer who was killed in a traffic
accident in NYC a year before you were born. The more songs I post, the more I show my age! Here's another one of my fave's that is also older than you are:
Hey MT my lucid friend :) this is superb thank you and do not worry bout showing your age whatever that may be because youth is lost to everyone no matter who but wisdom is not an automatic pick up for anyone and so be glad you possess it my friend..

and it is true that many songwriters I think only write when they are melancholy and I remember someone say I cannot remember who but that when they are happy they have many great things they can do but when they are sad their somber songwriting keeps them company.. well I see we are off on that slippery slope into melancholy you and I and so let me change tack and here is something right outta left field for you and which you prolly will not know from a good while ago I remember though you might well know Bjork who was with these guys at the beginning and this is just too weird and a little freaky and a little ominous and scary too and if you could hear the weird Icelandic twangy offkey pop music also you would have an appreciation for what starts odd and ends peculiar.. and this is sung not darkly but innocently and upbeat but still.. those lyrics... Bjork at her weirdest imNsvho.. anyway I like it and it is Birthday from the Sugarcubes

She lives in this house over there; has her world outside it
Scrapples in the earth with her fingers and her mouth... She's five years old

Threads worms on a string. Keeps spiders in her pocket
Collects fly wings in a jar. Scrubs horse flies... And pinches them on a line
Ohhh...

She has one friend, he lives next door. They're listenening to the weather
He knows how many freckles she's got... She scratches his beard

She's painting huge books and glues them together
They saw a big raven: it glided down the sky... She touched it
Ohh...

Today is a birthday. They're smoking cigars
He's got a chain of flowers and sows a bird in her knickers
Ohhh...

They're smoking cigars. They lie in the bathtub
A chain of ... flowers

Hey HKPhoo :) well this one here is sweeeet absolutely!! and of course I am wondering were you a fan of the mighty Bauhaus before Love and Rockets seeing as they were the phoenix from the Bauhaus ashes??? I am interested to know as I am a BIG fan of Bauhaus who were truly the instigators of goth before that was even a term used in music and what do I know before my time and all but I make a point of seeking these things and so even if you are not a fan... just sit in your chair and quietly meditate ha! here is my fav Bauhaus.. nope not Bela Lugosi but Dark Entries oh yes.. I will not give the whole thing as it is a bit um... MUCH, ha! wow! powerful stuff..

I came upon your room it stuck into my head we leapt into the bed degrading even lice
You took delight in taking down my shielded pride until exposed, became my darker side
Puckering up and down those avenues of sin too cheap to ride they're worth a try
If only for the old times cold times don't go waving your pretentious love

He's soliciting on his tan brown brogues girating through some lonesome devils row
Pinpointing well meaning upper class prey of walking money checks posessing holes
He often sleekly offers his services. Exploitation of his finer years work with loosely woven fabrics of lonely office clerks... Any lay suffices his dollar green eye

That was 10cc's big hit stateside. I had the album, 'Original Soundtrack'. I do love that song, too. It's, as you said, defiant...well, I would say melancholy hyperbole, perhaps; but, still...

Today, I obtained an apartment and I'm moving from the house my wife and shared for nearly a year. I had to call her and suggest she move the rest of her belongings to the place she is now living. Responsibility for our actions became a running theme in my mind and, of course, I had a song crop up.

Postcards From Cambodia
Bruce Cockburn

Abe Lincoln once turned to somebody and said,
"Do you ever find yourself talking with the dead?"

There are three tiny deaths heads carved out of mammoth tusk
on the ledge in my bathroom
They grin at me in the morning when I'm taking a leak,
but they say very little.

Outside Phnom Penh there's a tower, glass paneled,
maybe ten meters high
filled with skulls from the killing fields
Most of them lack the lower jaw
so they don't exactly grin
but they whisper, as if from a great distance,
of pain, and of pain left far behind

Eighteen thousand empty eyeholes peering out at the four directions

Electric fly buzz, green moist breeze
Bone-colored Brahma bull grazes wet-eyed,
hobbled in hollow of mass grave
In the neighboring field a small herd
of young boys plays soccer,
their laughter swallowed in expanding silence

This is too big for anger,
it’s too big for blame.
We stumble through history so
humanly lame
So I bow down my head
Say a prayer for us all
That we don’t fear the spirit
when it comes to call

The sun will soon slide down into the far end of the ancient reservoir.
Orange ball merging with its water-borne twin
below air-brushed edges of cloud.
But first, it spreads itself,

a golden scrim behind fractal sweep of swooping fly catchers.
Silhouetted dark green trees,
blue horizon

The rains are late this year.
The sky has no more tears to shed.
But from the air Cambodia remains
a disc of wet green, bordered by bright haze.
Water-filled bomb craters, sun streaked gleam
stitched in strings across patchwork land and
march west toward the far hills of Thailand.
Macro analog of Ankor Wat’s temple walls
intricate bas-relief of thousand-year-old battles
pitted with AK rounds

And under the sign of the seven headed cobra
the naga who sees in all directions
seven million landmines lie in terraced grass, in paddy, in bush
(Call it a minescape now)

Sally holds the beggar's hand and cries
at his scarred up face and absent eyes
and right leg gone from above the knee

Tears spot the dust on the worn stone causeway
whose sculpted guardians row on row
Half frown, half smile, mysterious, mute.

And this is too big for anger.
It’s too big for blame
We stumble through history so
humanly lame.
So I bow down my head,
say a prayer for us all.
That we don’t fear the spirit when it comes to call.

I'm on a Pink Floyd kick lately...I'm really into these lyrics from the wall

Did you see the frightened ones?
Did you hear the falling bombs?
Did you ever wonder why
we have to run for shelter
with the promise of a brave new world
unfurled beneith a clear blue sky?

Good bye blue sky
Good bye blue sky

Did you see the firightened ones?
Did you hear the flling bombs?
The flames are all long gone but the pain lingers on.

Good bye blue sky
Good bye blue sky

ok...they're simple, but the lyrics hit me for some reason

And of course Wish You Were Here is totally epic

jeez o jeez... I could never name them all - my tastes run from mozart to Metallica and everything in between and part of the reason is lyrics. If they speak to me at all, I'm hooked.

For instance, I obviously dig Bob Segar, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and all of the poets, but htis thread has been a trip down love and rockets memory lane! Daniel Ash ROCKS. so does Ian Ashbury...

oh hell... see what I mean? lol

Anyway, here's a real great song:

said Red Molly to James, that’s a fine motorbike,
a girl could feel special on any such like
said James to Red Molly, well my hats off to you
it's a Vincent black lightning, 1952
and I’ve seen you at the corners and cafes, it seems
red hair and black leather, my favourite colour scheme
and he pulled her on behind and down to Boxhill they did ride

said James to Red Molly, here's a ring for your right hand
but I’ll tell you in earnest, I’m a dangerous man
I’ve fought with the law since I was seventeen
I robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine
now I’m 21 years, I might make 22 and I don't mind dying, but for the love of you
and if fate should break my stride I’ll give you my Vincent to ride

come down, come down, Red Molly, called sergeant MacRae
for they’ve taken young James Adie for armed robbery
shotgun blast hit his chest, left nothing inside
come down, Red Molly to his dying bedside
when she came to the hospital,
there wasn't much left
he was running out of road, he was
running out of breath
but he smiled to see her cry
said I’ll give you my Vincent to ride

said young James, in my opinion,
there's nothing in this world
beats a '52 Vincent and a red-headed girl
now Nortons and Indians and Greeves won' t do
they don't have a soul like a Vincent '52
he reached for her hand and he gave her the keys
he said i don't have any further use for these
I see angels on Ariels in leather and chrome
swooping down from heaven to carry me home
he gave her one last kiss and died
and he gave her his Vincent to ride

Now that you've been broken down
Got your head out of the clouds
Back down on the ground
Where you don't talk so loud
And you don't walk so proud
Sweet! G 'n ****in' R!
I think my personal favorite by them is Patience, maybe because it's one of the few G 'n R songs I can sing without killing my throat.

Shed a tear 'cause I'm missing you
I'm still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn't sure
But you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt you're in my heart now
Said woman take it slow
It'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience
Said sugar make it slow
And we'll come together fine
All we need is just a little patience
Patience...
Ooh, oh, yeah

Sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now, I'll wait dear
Sometimes, I get so tense
But I can't speed up the time
But you know, love, there's one more thing to consider
Said woman take it slow
Things will be just fine
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said sugar take the time
'Cause the lights are shining bright
You and I've got what it takes to make it
We won't fake it, Oh never break it
'Cause I can't take it

...little patience, mm yeah, ooh yeah,
Need a little patience, yeah
Just a little patience, yeah
Some more pati... (ence, yeah)
I've been walking these streets at night
Just trying to get it right (Need some patience, yeah)
It's hard to see with so many around
You know I don't like being stuck in a crowd (Could use some patience, yeah)
And the streets don't change but maybe the name
I ain't got time for the game
'Cause I need you (Patience, yeah)
Yeah, yeah well I need you
Oh, I need you (Take some patience)
Whoa, I need you (Just a little patience is all we need)
Ooh, this ti- me....

Egg my friend :) thank you for sharing and for telling why this is relevant and important to you and I have not heard this artist and your tastes and musical experience well outstrip my own and I will not even try to be competitive with you for that is not me at all but instead I give you something which for some reason came to my head and you would like this music I know for a FACT because you have such a diverse auditory palate and I mean this lyric not in some sinister way! which it does seem now I read it over what I have typed but if you could hear the music you would know what I intended.. I doubt you will know Sugar.. track called A Good Idea

They went down to the river on a warm summer night
The air was thick with the smell of... temptation
He said.. Why don't we lay in the water; Let the water run over me
And she grinned and she said now she said now she said...
Now that's a good idea she said she said
Now that's a good idea she said she said...

He held her head high in his hands. He held her down deep in the stream
He saw the bubbles and matted hair mixed in with seaweed
She started to scream Was it something I said Was it something I said
And she said and she said and she said she said...
Now that's a good idea she said she said
To be alone with you she said she said
I've been waiting for years and I'd rather be dead

That's a good idea he said he said

He held her down in the river. He held her down in the water
Another river of mud to wash away those tears
He said and he said now that's a good idea
He said now that's a good idea
He said now that's a good idea
He said now that's a good idea

I saw them from the ocean. She didn't seem to mind; Didn't fight at all...
She didn't fight it at all
Some things are best left alone. Sometimes I'm best left alone
And sometimes I see you in the water at night at night at night

That's a good idea she said she said
I wanna feel you in the water with your hands on my head
Push you down into the water she said she said
Now that's a good idea she said she said
Now that's a good idea that's a good idea
She said she said
Now she said now she said
That's a good idea that's a good idea
That's a good idea

How about Syd Barrett... Its no good trying to win your love.
Cuz I can see that your different from me, and I can tell that you can't be what you pretend.
Your rocking me backward and rocking me forward like a red and yellow mane on a stallion horse...
