Retirement dream

All weight is underside
Well, retirement is looming.... but then so is the strong possibility of shoulder surgery....Becoming an old martial artist is fun...well... it was fun getting here anyway...... but the retirement dream is to spend a lot of time training martial arts again. In my early 30s there was a point I was training both at home and in a guan 7 days a week, and it was awesome. However I doubt I could keep that pace in my mid 60s. I am also no longer a young divorced guy with no real responsibilities. And Mrs Xue also has dreams (edicts actually) for my retirement.... clean the basement, clean the garage, carry luggage more often due to increased traveling.

With that said, the dream. possible fantasy, would have me in a Guan, dojo, or my basement guan 5 or 6 days a week.
This would include Qigong, Xingyiquan, Taijiquan, Kobudo, Karate, and Aikido

Qigong: Started doing Baduanjin in the mornings. Looking to possible get back to 5 elements qigong

Taijiquan is going on now since I returned to my Yang Shifu to train. And I am part of building a push hands group outside of that, with a friend of mine, that meets once a week.

Xingyiquan has also returned, early stages, basics and rereads of Xingyiquan classics. But this is training on my own and looking for seminars. Zhou Xuan Yun had a great set of seminars for Wudang Xingyiquan 5 elements this past year. One Sarturday, all day, once a month for 12 months. If he does that again I will be there, I will have the time. There was a time I was going to teach this, but this was a long time ago and several surgeries ago

Now this all come down to how much push back I get from Mrs Xue, but I suspect her push back as more to do with those things based on her experience... (example, she had no issues what-so-ever with JKD or Wing Chun because she had never seen it.)

Kobudo, will likely happen, can sell that as weapons forms

Karate: Possibly, depends on how much she knows about it, but this is a 50 and above class, so also very possible

Aikido: This may be an uphill losing battle. Mrs Xue has seen it, multiple times, when she took our youngest to Aikido class many times. And of course my youngest's recent statement "Yeah, dad might get hurt" didn't help.

We shall see, but I am also not delusional. I know eventually I will likely be only training Taijiquan, possibly Xingyiquan. But that is OK, I will likely be teaching Taijiquan again by then.

Now wait to see what the prognosis is for the shoulder and for retirement, which is likely about 3 months away

👍

Best of luck....

I've been retired for about seven years now.

If you can keep your living expenses under control and live somewhere you truly want to be, retirement isn't too bad.

My original plan was to settle in Taiwan for a number of reasons. It didn't quite work out that way. 🤔

I do spend extended time there with my wife's family, and I have resident status, so who knows...things may change, and we may end up spending most of our time there.

I've had a few Taiji practitioners interested in what I'm doing, and with so many groups practicing openly in the parks, it's always made life interesting and enjoyable.

The dream has always been to have a small group there to practice with.

Still working on it.... ☯️

Thanks, living expenses are under control, Mrs Xue is a rather impresive financial planner. And she is still working in her office seeing patients and will be for a few more years

We will be spending extended time in China, but not that extended. About a month at most. My wife is still working

If I end up teaching again it will likely be out of my wife's office, like I did last time I taught

good luck with getting there
