Poly cotton v cotton?

I recently purchased a GI on line . It has no tags indicating model or material. The manufacturer make both cotton and polycotton GI's. Is there some way to tell if it is cotton or a poly cotton? thanks.

Burn it. Polycotton will leave a melted, black residue (the polyester) . You won’t have much of a Karategi left.

Failing that, do you have access to a mass spectrometer?

Since you say there is no tag, I assume you purchased it used? If you purchased new, you should be able to back into the answer via the order information.
At least to me, polyester has a distinct odor, especially when it gets hot. If the Gi is 50/50 poly-cotton, I would think you could smell it. If it is 20% poly (quite common) you may not smell it but it should wick sweat better.

Yes, purchased off ebay. Shureido, used some but little signs of wear. Has brand labels. Heavy been told by students at dojo probably K10 or NW3. measurements fit those of size 4 maybe 5.

I bought Shureido used on ebay for $27.50 including shipping. While new K10 seem to be $250 + 80 shipping = $330 give or take a bit. The NW3 is $325 plus $80 in shipping = $410. Also add Trump's import tariffs. (I am in USA.)

I followed one pair of Heavyweight pants approximately size 4 that were listed For $50 for 11.5 months and finally were sold for best bid.

Without actually counting, after giving several away, I would say I am down to around 15. From Shureido and Tokaido to Century and Pro Force. I recently joined "GI anonymous." and have gone about a year w/o any purchases. Currently in withdrawal.

On another forum I came across a guy from, I think Iraq, asking for help obtaining a quality GI. I offered to send him one that I thought met his criteria , A Ronan almost new Gi heavy weight in his size for free that I had acquired. I would pay shipping, although that was going to be complicated.

He visited the Ronan web site and decided that the GI was not up to his standard. And rejected it.

It surprised me.

14oz canvas is very heavy, snappy and crisp. Branding is just a fashion statement. I always liked Tokaido but they seem to have adopted those silly skirt-like front and backs in the jacket which look ridiculous in my opinion

I just bought a Mugen orange tag 10 oz. which is fairly stiff in its own right.
Seems to be well put together.
Only practiced a couple of times in it.
No complaints.
USA based.
It was in the mail the same day I ordered it.
Shipping was $6.95 from CA to GA, free if you spend $100+.

The Mugen line is their higher quality performance/competition version.
The most expensive blue tag one tops out around $149.

They also have a standard KI line of 14 oz. duck and brushed duck which was very popular in the 1980’s and 1990’s when I was active in karate.
The most you can spend on one of those is about $95.
