Plan one step ahead

Sweeping the legs is an art in and of itself. Damn fine one, too. It can neutralize kickers, give punchers fits, has many uses in self defense. Everything else does, too, obviously, but I think sweeps are overlooked in most striking dojos.

Just be aware of the opponents head, both in the dojo and in self defense.

When your opponent kicks you, you attack his standing leg is always a good strategy. If your opponent's leg can reach to your body, your leg should be able to reach to his leg too.

the head is just as useful in a takedown as a sweep, In a counter

And a comment on the actual video...while the uke's stance is rather wide and stable,

Stable, his central balance point is so off, any contact to the front of his head puts him on his butt, and rather wide, you could use him as a bridge over the Hudson.

I agree. I'm more concerned with making sure the head doesn't bounce of the pavement/floor in a hard sweep.
