, I'd teach them, but I'd ask something in return, such as assisting or doing something else around the dojo.

good idea to give the student some responsibility to go along with the training. It makes them feel like they are earning the teaching and teaches them to be responsible at the same time

tshadowchaser, you need to remember all people need to feel worth in everything they do in life so giving them some chores to do around the dojang would only help build self esteem in one's life.

One of my old instructors did this for a few people. The family was going through a rough time, so rather than see the student leave, he had them come in a bit early or stay later to help with cleaning, office work, etc.
