Music and Taijiquan

I don't know about Tai Chi practice, but I have noticed that I can spar for a lot longer without getting tired if I have the right kind of music playing. (For me, that means something danceable with a good backbeat. Nothing too fast and aggressive or too slow and relaxing.)
It's my understanding that soldiers can march much longer when accompanied by a band.

Cadenced marching by drumbeat is ancient, was lost for a while then rediscovered in the 1700's I believe and has been with the military ever since with drum, music or vocals. Its benefit is when marching to a steady beat the pace can be regulated and increase endurance.

But a steady rhythm is not beneficial for individual combat where variation in tempo is desirable.

Maybe Banjo then?

Definitely Banjo.

C130 rolling down the strip
Airborne daddy gonna take a little trip
Stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door
Step right out and count to four
If my chute don’t open wide
I’ve got another one by my side
If that one should fail me too
Look out ground I’m coming through

Been over 40 years since I heard that, and it came right back without thinking about it.

Yes, of course. The original post was referring to endurance during solo practice, if I recall.

We were just kids but I remember part of this one:
When my granny was 91, she did PT just for fun
When my granny was 92, she did PT better than you
When my granny was 93, she did PT better than me
When my granny was 94, she did PT just for scores
When my granny was 95, she did PT just to stay alive
When my granny was 96, she did PT just for kicks
When my granny was 97, she up and died and went to heaven…

We called PT “penalty tour”. 🤣 You got extra if you didn’t do your homework.

A kid in my graduating class got sent to military school every time he got in trouble. My freshman year, he was not there, have no idea what he did, He appeared in my sophomore year, not exactly sure what he did, Junior year he was not there, he reappeared in my senior year....and he got in trouble again, I know what he did that time.... but that time he did not go to military school...he went to prison

I stayed 4 years. Loved it! It was supposed to be a punishment. I did go to jail after, but not prison.

To be honest, I cannot be sure he went to prison, but he did get arrested, vandalism that likely cost thousands of dollar in the last of the 1970s... could have landed him in jail... but I never cared enough to find out

Ah malicious mischief was my favorite crime! Never on the innocent, always there were appropriate targets. It’s only good if it’s funny. Anyone need revenge tips? I’m an Nth degree black belt in this.
