Was thinking about this idea (instead of grading papers or planning as I should be :)):

You can be 'running' and that is just an activity or action.

What makes the perception of that action either positive or negative is whether you are motivated the intention of 'running to something' or 'running from something' while you are 'running.'

In MA training, both motivations/intentions will arise at different times. When I started learning certain blocks/defensive manuevers, it was very nerve wracking and negative because I was doing it with a 'running from' mentallity. That changes over time of course.

Dealing with the 'running from something' mentallity is a huge aspect of the personal development that comes from MA training, IMO - moreso than the statistical likelyhood of using the physical tools in a self defense situation.

Any personal experiences along these lines?
