Mook Jong Arms question

Xue Sheng

All weight is underside
I have a shoulder issue at the moment and Mrs Xue keeps yelling at me that hitting wood is not helping my shoulder.... I am considering changing to the spring arms

What are your thoughts on these

Well, if its temporary because of your shoulder..I don't see an issue. But the 'spring' feature would not provide the feedback of the normal wooden arms and thus over time it may impact your wing chun. Just my 2 cents.

I think what I'm trying to say is that 'springs' / spring energy would not provide the feedback to your horse, much less your elbows/shoulder joints etc.

Two different pieces of equipment yielding two different results. The rigid arms act sort of like a makiwara, building power against resistance at the point of contact, while the spring version I think more closely resembles an actual person's limbs and can facilitate speed and flow from move to move.

Might help to see how it works in action.

My Wing Chun experience comes from those I knew in high school "1970s" .who studied under Chris Chan.
His style emphasized a lot of power through something he called “dynamic tension,” a bit different from other Wing Chun stylists I've met over the years.
