I've been aware of this for a long time, but I keep forgetting to mention it to people. MIT offers free courseware (non credit, but college classes nonetheless).

Why should the MA'ist care? Well, they offer language classes, for one. Some might enjoy learning a smattering of Japanese or Chinese. They also have courses in various eastern cultures and history.

Anyway, it's all free, even some of the various books, PDF files, multi-media stuff, everything. Sometimes they refer to books that would have to be purchased elsewhere, but none that you have to buy.

Unlocking Knowledge,
Empowering Minds.

Free lecture notes, exams, and videos from MIT. No registration required.

MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity.
What is MIT OpenCourseWare?
MIT OpenCourseWare is a free publication of MIT course materials that reflects almost all the undergraduate and graduate subjects taught at MIT.

  • OCW is not an MIT education.
  • OCW does not grant degrees or certificates.
  • OCW does not provide access to MIT faculty.
  • Materials may not reflect entire content of the course.
How do I register to use MIT OpenCourseWare?
There is no registration or enrollment process because OCW is not a credit-bearing or degree-granting initiative.
It's a pretty cool deal. Just passing along for those who might be interested.

Oh and it's not just MIT, by the way:

So there you go...

how about japan & the age of the samurai: history & film ? we could do the discussion throughout the week, since we all have different schedules & the posts won't disappear anytime soon.
