Martial Arts are Witchcraft, just ask this guy!

Apropos of nothing, I do a lot of yoga and I know people in church who think it's demonic. One rarely finds these attitudes in those with a theological training, it's more the rank and file who have outlandish Ideas like this. No, I don't think martial arts is witchcraft, but the views of some martial artists don't exactly help with this notion either. There are far too many of us who view chi, for instance, as being something akin to the force.
Of course it’s not the physical exercise of yoga that is the problem, it the spiritual / religious aspect of it. The Bible literally warns of angles / demons coming and presenting another gospel. Christianity helped define western civilization, Hinduism helped define cast system.

I don't get this whole discussion. TMA is self-control over body, mind and fighting spirit and imposing one's will over the opponent. Theology or supernatural elements have nothing to do with it. Putting these into the Art is delusional self-satisfaction or marketing propaganda.

Are you saying that you believe the religions of India are a problem, some kind of demon worship?

Man, you just do not understand what Yoga is about. It has nothing to do with religion, any religion. And 'religion' and 'spiritual' are very, very, very different in meaning.
Do a little research/study on Yoga and you will learn this.

You are wrong. Of course, the western version is basically physical and like I stated, the phycal movement is not the issue.

So when in wore my martial arts emblemed shirt to church, someone pointed out that martial arts were not ā€œChristianā€ in which I explained that it is how it is taught. Not all martial arts revolve around Taoism, Buddhism , Confucianism, etc.

Are you saying your MA's training is tied to Christanity?

Reading through this,. I just have to tell this story. Many years ago, I was approached by a protestant minister to teach Taijiquan and I said I would..... however it turned out that there weere not enough students for me to teach, so I decided not to have a class. Then I was approached by the same minister to give classes to the local minsters, priest, etc that were "very" interested. I agreed. However when I talked about what I charge, he said he would have to get back to me. He eventually called me back and then told me that it was best if they did not have an eastern religion in the church....

I said to him, I am not a taoist or a buddhist and taijiquan is not teaching either. We had a bit more of a discussion and I finlly had to say, if a taijiquan class can make you questoin your religion, you have a rather tenuous grasp on your religion ..... I also said I would not teach.

This by the way was the third time this minister contacted me about classes. I said I need a minium of 6 students both times. First time the got 3, second time 4, third time, well I have no idea, he never told me how many religious leaders wanted to learn.....well...at least until I wanted to get paid for teaching.

What I found bery interesting was they were all "Very interested" (his words not mine) but as soon as I talked about money... it became a threatening Eastern religion.

The cross hold all the yoga and Taiji one would want, it stretch vertically and horizontally from its center. From the points of the cross arms a square can be drawn, spin the cross the arms draw a circle- symbolizing the earth(square) and heavens(circle) tying the cross to the holy trinity - heaven-man-earth

There a many unbalanced pastors and preachers. That is why there are pastors that pastor Pastors! Your father maybe should have been more sensitive to your needs. My father was an uptight drinking jerk. He could not express love easily, but built and fixed things. It wasn’t until I became a Christian that I leaned to not only forgive him, but understand him. This brought peace to our relationship b

As to Yoga i have seen mentioned in this thread, I use to do that as well, never once did i feel i was getting anything that was Hindu or Buddhist. And i trained (in my pre arthritic youth) power yoga, kripalu yoga, and hatha yoga. These days i do a little yoga for core and balance

Yoga the modern ancient gymnastics -

ā€Perhaps more than any other single system of physical culture, the Swedish gymnastics built on the pioneering work of Ling (1766–1839) has oriented the development of modern physical culture in the West and postural yoga in its modern, export forms.ā€
