Fellow Karatekas,
Does anyone know the Japanese word for Kwan? To clarify, kwan is Korean for school or club, not to be confused with dojo or dojang. In Kanji, the word is the same between the languages, just pronounced differently. Attached is the kwan in kanji. Kwan is the kanji at the bottom of the image. Thank you.

Looks a bit like the Kanji for Ryu.

Kan is an older Japanese way of saying the Middle Chinese kwoon/kwan, like other things it was changed by the Japanese to sound less Chinese over the last century.

In Tokyo today it would be pronounced thus, and note how they changed it from its original meaning to specifically add Shinto and Sumo training hall references.
