Is Chael Sonnen really a gangster?

Is MMA fighter Chael Sonnen really a gangster? As in really a criminal? I often see him saying that he's a gangster. For example, during his upcoming UFC 148 fight against Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen said, "I'm Not a Martial Artist. I'm a Gangster'.

Seriously, what do these all mean?

I kind of like chael but he has some really bizarre views on fighting. He doesn’t believe in technique like footwork or really anything. It explains a lot of his career limitation. I’m pretty sure even after decades and being a pro, he is still only a purple belt in bjj to this day. It makes very little sense. He’s also against Muay Thai.

Chael is a black belt in BJJ. He earned that rank something like 8 years ago. He certainly believes in technique. I’m not sure where the idea that he’s against Muay Thai comes from, unless it’s from one of his trash-talking rants which are essentially clickbait to get attention. He’s actually a smart guy, but he will say provocative stuff just to get people riled up if he can translate that into attention and money.

That might be true it’s not like I know him personally. He greatly embarrassed himself recently in bjj competition and I thought I heard him say it was because he’s only a purple belt but I could be wrong about that. I’ve heard him say many times about the technique thing for example. For example in boxing he said that he’s never been able to pull off proper punching technique in a real live situation. He made a whole video about this and he implied basically that it’s pointless to work on those details because nobody ends up using them. Which imo is ridiculous.
