Internet 2.0

I'm listening to the radio and I just heard that six years ago a project to revamp the internet was introduced. This has been called Internet II. The old internet will not be upgraded and everyone will be encouraged to sign on to the new version of the Internet.

What do you know about this? What do you think about this? Lets discuss...

Likely hearing the buzz word "Web 2.0" and filling in the missing pieces with their imagination. Maybe they mixed that up with IPv6
to arrive at this?

I thought it was a stand-alone system designed to provide high speed data transfer capabilities primarily for educational and scientific purposes. I don't think it was designed for public application.

With the marketing machines of some tech companies, both established and the 'wannabe next google', I wouldn't doubt that there is confusion along with all the hype of Web 2.0. I'm more inclined towards the #Criticism part of the Web 2.0 link. . ."piece of jargon".
