Hi,

Ive been doing Kenpo for the last 5 years but ive had to move away so can no longer train in it.

However i have found 2 local schools one teaching the 5 pattern animal hung kuen kung fu and the other teaching hapkido.

My question is are these styles practical for self defence as i am not interested in tornaments. I know they both probably have there advantages etc. But what would your oppinions be on the most easiest to come naturally and be effective on the street?

PS I also did try MMA but there were rules designed for the ring, which put me off as on the street you need to be able to utilise all your weapons /targets. Please let me know if you think ive been misled on the MMA.

thanks in advance

The best advice that I can give you is to go and visit both of the schools.

Observe how they train, when the class is over, talk to the instructors and ask questions.

See if you click with either of the schools' instructors and their approach to the martial arts.
