Hello.

just a quick one how many times do you lap your belt around your waist?

This may sound strange to some but we have been instructed that te belt should lap around our waists once and this is to represent the following:-

Gain victory with one blow!
Serve one master.

there is one more but its late and the nogging is not doing its job at the moment.

what does eveyone else do?

Single wrap belts are nothing more than a cost-saving measure for the instructor. They didn't even come on the scene until a couple of years ago. Sorry, as far as I'm concerned they rank (pun intended) right there with velcro and camo belts.

I do the double wrap. Hmm, what kind of quotes or sayings can go with that. . . .

Gain victory with twice the power at twice the speed!
Because one good turn deserves another!
Serve two masters, the wife at home and the GM in the dojang!

:)

Yeah, shorter belts are impossibly tacky even though they look and function exactly the same.

Double wrap here, all of my belts were. The colored belts now in the org are single wrap, double at black belt. I concur on it being a cost saving issue (although on the manufacturing end, not the school end).

We don't get shorter belts for the single tie round we get standard length and if to long then they got to be cut back!

our school is part of the UKTA under Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha 9th Dan. as far as im aware he is vice president of the ITF. So we kind of got to do as he says!.

2 for us too.
We have stripe velcro belts for our little ninjas class (3,4,5 y.o.) that only wrap around once. I have found they come untied just as often as normal belts though so really the velcro doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

For the under 6 crowd, I think single wrap is fine. Double wrap for everyone else.

I guess I'd never heard of single-wrap belts before. When did they come in?

As far as im aware it has been in for a while ive got an old looking ITF book that runs through the whole sylibus from 10kup to 1st dan and it has a small section on it. Plus the UKTA have just released a 40th anniversary book that also has a section on it which includes why its done plus the Korean terminology.

Bigshadow mentions the double round would help carry more weapons! not sure if this would be the case as the TKD is very modern and so the people using it would be wearing modern-ish military clothing not doboks so a belt like this would not be needed. I may be wrong so correct me if i am.
