Thanks! It was the big time intense. All sets and forms were
done a minimum of 3 times, all techs were done a minimum of
5 times each, and we did a TON of footwork. Spent a long
dad-gum time in a horse stance, going over parries, strikes,
kicks, etc, and seemed to do a lot of footwork with those strikes,
kicks, parries, etc. The test over all was 5 1/2 hours long. When
I was done, my legs were like JELLO, I had absolutely no strength
left in them. The last tech I had to do was Chargin Ram, and
when I dummied for my partner, I charged him the final time, and
went to the ground, I just stayed there while he did his 16 techs
for blue belt. I was WIPED by the end of it, and just plain
STARVING! It was pure hell, but I couldn't begin to describe how
much I learned and I'd do it again tomorrow. Well .. maybe not
tomorrow, but like the day after, or the day after that ... soon as
my legs stop hurting :D

My congratulations as well!

Just out of curiousity, are tests at most American Kenpo schools -- especially tests for yellow through blue -- usually this long? The tests that I've taken so far (at my school, which is not American Kenpo) haven't been anywhere near that long. My understanding from my fellow students is that the tests are substantially harder (and correspondingly longer) starting with green, but I won't find that out for myself for many months.

I'm also wondering if several people test at once. I'm in such a small school that it's just the testee and his/her dummy, but I imagine having several people testing at once could substantially increase the amount of time the test would take. If several people do test at once, is there only one person conducting the test, or several?

Thanks, and congrats again!

Rich

I think the instructor and assistants were just in a sadistic mood
this time. When one of the asst.'s test for 1st brown, it was
shorter than this test! Like I said, it was the best and worst time
I've had in quite awhile! Typically the test would've been about
2 1/2 hours I'd say. Give or take.

Ditto. Congratulations. 5 1/2 hours!
I may come back later with a story or two, but well done.
I guess that means you should be Blue or even Green for Camp next year?

On this topic, I don't know if this should be another thread but do most EPAK schools:
A. Do group tests?
B. Test at all?

I know at my previous school we only tested one person at a time. But I've also seen and heard that some schools don't test... they just promote with no formal "test." I know people who have been "promoted" this way so I'm curious. I've always assumed that most rank was awarded based on a test, but maybe it is not. I think under Mr. Parker most people do group tests as well, but I thought I'd ask while I was on the same subject, or while I was following up from what Rich said. :asian:

At our school, the test is more like a rake through the coals,
HOWEVER .. if you're allowed to "test" you're gonna get your
belt. I guess you'd have to majorly foul up to NOT get it. Your
actual test is before testing day ever shows up.

Man, Rookie of the year at Camp, and now a promotion?

Does it ever end?:D
